Title of the topic:
“UTERINETONIC ACTIVITY OF AQUEOUS EXTRACTOF Cocos nucifera Linn.INFLORESCENCE.”
BRIEF RESUME OF THE INTENDED WORK:
6.1 NEED FOR THE STUDY:
Woman of reproductive age (i.e. puberty to menopause) are most commonly affected by Endocrine diseases including diseases of uterus and ovaries. Disturbed menstruation, amnorrhea, variety of pain inand Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) are some of them.PCOS affects 5% of all women of reproductive age and is leading cause of infertility. In PCOS ovaries are usually involved bilateral and are at least twice the size ofnormal ovary due to unbalanced release ofreproductive hormones.1To treat these problems mostly women prefer to use uterine tonics.Where uterine tonics are best known for their nourishing and toning function of uterus.
From ancient time mankind believes on herbal therapies. Now a day’sinterest is growing in herbal therapies due to their wide range of safety. The purpose of present study is to conduct experiment for usefulness of aqueous extract of Cocos nucifera Linn. Inflorescence as uterine tonic and to treat PCOS.

MATERIAL AND METHODS:
7.1SOURCE OF DATA :
Data is generated from the laboratory based animal studies and experimental data from library is also utilized.
7.2METHOD OF COLLECTION OF DATA:
The data collected will be based on animal experimentation as per the parameters studied under each animal model. The sampling procedure and collection of data will be as follows.
METHODOLOGY :
1) SCREENING OF UTERINETONIC ACTIVITY :
I.UTERINE WEIGHT9,12:
Animals:
Immature female wistar rats. Rats will be ovariectomised.
Four groups will be made. Each group will contain 8 rats.
Following groups will be made:
Group 01 (n = 8) : Vehicle
Group 02 (n = 8) : Standard
Group 03 (n = 8) : Test(Dose 1)
Group 04 (n = 8) : Test (Dose 2)
II. VAGINAL CORNIFICATION12:
Animals:
Immature female wistar rats. Rats will be ovariectomised.
Five groups will be made. Each group will contain 8 rats.
Following groups will be made:
Group 01 (n = 8) : Control
Group 02 (n = 8): Test (Dose 1)
Group 03 (n = 8): Test (Dose 2)
Group04 (n = 8): Standard (Dose 1)
Group 05 (n = 8): Standard (Dose 2)
2)EVALUATON OF POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME (PCOS):
Animals:
Female wistar rats.
Four groups will be made. Each group will contain 6 rats.
Following groups will be made:
Group 01 (n = 6): Normal
Group 02 (n = 6): Induction of multiple cyst
Group 03 (n = 6): Pretreatment with drug (Dose 1) + Induction of multiple cyst
Group 04 (n = 6): Pretreatment with drug (Dose 2) + Induction of multiple cyst
STASTICAL ANALYSIS:
The data will be analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).
7.3 Does the study require any investigation to be conducted on patients
Or other humans or animals? If so please describe briefly
Yes, The above study requires investigation on animals. The effect of drug will be studied
on various parameters using rat and mice as animal model.
7.4 Has ethical clearance been obtained from your institution in case of 7.3?
Yes, applied for “Institutional Animal Ethics Committee” of Nargund College of Pharmacy.
