Job Description for Early Years Teacher

Responsible to: Head Teacher

Purpose of Job: To teach children in Reception ensuring the highest possible standards of pupil achievement, personal development and well-being; ensuring effective subject teaching, pastoral care and necessary administration and to fulfil the EYFS Statutory Guidelines.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND KEY TASKS PLANNING, TEACHING AND CLASS MANAGEMENT:

Plan teaching to achieve progression of learning through:

·  Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed;

·  Setting tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest

·  Effectively delivering the EYFS curriculum ensuring adult and child led activities daily and ongoing continuous provision covers all areas

·  Identifying and catering for SEN or very able pupils;

·  Making effective use of observation and assessment to ensure coverage;

·  Use a variety of teaching methods to inspire and engage all pupils

·  To evaluate their own teaching critically.

ADDITIONAL STANDARDS FOR THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE:

·  Take account of pupils' needs by providing structured learning opportunities which develop the areas of learning identified in national and local policies and particularly the foundations for literacy and numeracy;

·  Encourage pupils to think and talk about their learning, develop self-control and independence, concentrate and persevere, and listen attentively;

·  Use a variety of teaching strategies which involve planned adult intervention, first-hand experience and play and talk as a vehicle for learning;

·  To work effectively as a team by managing parents and other adults in the classroom.

·  To work closely with the Nursery Nurse when organising and carrying out duties, particularly key worker roles, on‐going assessment and parent consultations.

MONITORING, ASSESSMENT, RECORDING, REPORTING - TO:

·  Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching;

·  To conduct on‐entry assessments accurately and consistently

·  Maintain records and learning journeys throughout the year. Carrying out ongoing assessments.

·  Meet with Nursery Nurse to discuss progress and to enter data onto the school’s tracking system

·  Ensure parent and child voice play a role in formative assessment

·  To keep a record of children’s developmental steps and to ensure Next Steps are derived from these and clearly evidence how next steps in learning are met.

·  Prepare and present informative reports to parents.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

·  Have a working knowledge of teachers' professional duties and legal responsibilities;

·  Establish effective working relationships and set a good example through their presentation and personal and professional conduct;

·  Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations;

·  Contribute to the life of the school through effective participation in meetings and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the management of the school;

·  Take responsibility for their own professional development and duties in relation to school policies and practices;

·  To uphold the policies of the school, in particular: Safeguarding, Health & Safety and Behaviour and the school’s Early Years Policy.

·  Liaise effectively with parents and governors;

·  Take on any additional responsibilities which might from time to time be determined.

Any additional responsibilities will be in line with Teachers’ Pay and Conditions as negotiated with the Head Teacher.
