GESS European Section Primary - Progress Folder Guidelines

There are five dividers in the progress folder, each with a plastic pocket for assessments, to be used as follows:

1.  GENERAL DATA – The student data page is the first page of the progress folder. It contains information about the student’s name, date of birth, family, date of entry into GESS, learning needs, languages spoken, and other relevant information such as allergies, medical conditions or behavior issues and contracts. Please file all parent-teacher summary meeting minutes here.

2.  SPELLING (the following is a minimum; additional assessments may be done)–

a.  1 diagnostic spelling test at the beginning of the academic year (Words Their Way)

b.  Weekly tests (Words Their Way) to determine if appropriate and steady progress is being made

c.  Highlight students who are NOT making appropriate progress and/or have slipped considerably over major holidays; refer to EAL/LS for supplementary testing

d.  1 diagnostic spelling test at the end of the academic year, (Words Their Way) before writing June reports

3.  READING – 3 reading assessments per semester (PM benchmark) for a total of six in the academic year; for students at level 30 and above, 3 PROBE reading assessments a year

4.  WRITING – 3 free writing samples per year, unassisted

5.  MATHEMATICS –

Baseline Assessment (August)

(Grades 1-2) – Compiled from Targeting Maths Teachers’ Guide

(Grades 3-5)

·  Targeting Maths Fourth Term Assessment from previous year

·  Students who receive 90% or higher then do First Term Test from current year

End of Year Assessment (June)

NOTES:

Please contact Viv Palosaari for guidance with reading assessments, if required. However, it is the classroom teacher’s responsibility to conduct regular assessments for all non-EAL students.

The progress folders are retained by the school, in the possession of the class teacher, and handed on to the following year’s class teacher. If the child leaves the school, it becomes the parents’ property.

If you need more plastic pockets, feel free to add them to the appropriate section.
