George Williams Garrett Memorial Scholarship Application

The George Williams Garrett Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 by Mrs. Sheila Garrett to honor her late husband George Williams Garrett. Mr. Garrett, an Air Force veteranwho served in Vietnam,was a mathematician and systems analyst. Mrs. Garrett is a medical technologist whose career spanned 45 years. The Garrett family is devoted to scientific research, especially research focused on medical applications.

The George Williams Garrett Memorial Scholarship provides $1000 support to students in the Honors College at Appalachian who are interested in pursuing careers in scientific research. Honors College students in good standing and performing research in fields related tothe Biomedical field are eligible to apply for this award. This scholarship is to fund expenses outside of the classroom and can be used to cover costs associated with research or travel. Travel funds may be used to collect data or present research at a conference. The scholarship is open to students in all fields of science, but preference shall be given to students who are planning on a career in Medicine and medical research. The award may be renewable.

This scholarship can be used to travel to a conference if the recipient is presenting and travel is completed within the current fiscal year.This scholarship may not be used to cover food and beverage expenses or gift certificate/gift card purchases.
