BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT
BOURNVILLE VILLAGE TRUST

George Cadbury, the chocolate manufacturer, founded Bournville Village Trust (BVT) in 1900.

We are a Registered Charity and also a Not-for-Profit Registered Housing Association and our current Vision is to:

“Create and Sustain Flourishing Communities

Where People Choose to Live”

This Vision bears very close similarities to our Founder’s original purpose back in 1900 but we have grown significantly since then.

George Cadbury endowed BVT with just over 300 homes standing on 330acres of land in what is now part of Birmingham but today the Bournville Estate covers over 1,000 acres containing nearly 8,000 homes and we are also very active in Telford in Shropshire.

BVT’s commitment to flourishing communities is based on mixed use and mixed tenure with about 40% of housing on the Bournville Estate being at affordable rents.

In Telford we are building a new village at Lightmoor which is due to complete in 2019, providing up to 1,000 new homes (25% of them being rented) and a range of great facilities including a Primary School, Nursery, Extra Care project, Community Centre, shops, playing fields and BVT’s usual commitment to lots of open space. We are also working in partnership with Housebuilders and another Housing Association at Lawley in Telford to develop a large new community of over 3,200 new homes over the next 15 years.

Back in Birminghamwork has started on a new CareVillage on the old BournvilleCollege site. These proposals include a large new Extra Care project in partnership with ExtraCare Charitable Trust, a Nursing Home with specialist Dementia Care, and a new Health and Wellbeing Centre.

We are a very diverse organisation and in addition to the provision of good quality rented homes in our role as a housing association, we are also responsible for:

An estate management and building control service

A Supported Housing function delivering a range of services to our more vulnerable clients, including older people and people with learning disabilities

A Community Services function

An Agricultural Estate

In-house Teams delivering property maintenance and landscaping services

Selly ManorMuseum

We have a clear set of Corporate Aims which support our Vision and these are to:

Provide high quality, customer focussed services that deliver value for money

Building successful and sustainable communities

Digital First Approach

Responding to Government changes and meeting our regulatory requirements

Business growth
