Primary 7 Curriculum Content for Term 2:2

Language & Literacy
Reading:Children will be studying Under the Hawthorn Tree to compliment World Around Us topic -.Guided reading sessions using Oliver Twist, The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe and The Diary of the Killer Cat.
Strategies:Continuation of reciprocal reading approach teaching the skills and strategies involved.
Writing: Diary entry to display empathy with Under the Hawthorn Tree/Famine victims including planning, drafting and researching.
Secretarial:Using a widening range of adverbs in narrative writing and risk-take by using WOW words (higher order vocabulary)
Spelling: Have A Go Spelling Books 2- 4
Mathematics & Numeracy
Mental Maths:Addition (adding any multiple of 10 to any multiple of 100) and Multiplication/Division (know squares of all integers from 1 to 10 and multiplication facts up to 12x12)
Number: Money – understanding credit card statements and problems involving money and percentages of an amount.
Data Handling: Reading and interpreting pie charts and line graphs.
Shape and Space:Measuring and drawing a range of angles (Cross-curricular topic based activities)
Problem Solving: Continuation of weekly problem solving activity exploring all areas of number and shape, space and measure using a variety of strategies.
World Around Us.
Titanic: Continuation of Natural disasters topic with specific focus on The Great Famine and the impact on Irish Society. We will also begin studying the fate of the Titanic, investigating life on board the ship, the infamous night it sank. Science experiments to investigate sinking/floating and temperature.
Medics in Primary Schools: Students from Queen’s University will be in Primary 7 each Thursday afternoon teaching the children about the Human Body (organs and systems)

Confirmation Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation
Retreat Days – Inside Out
Study of the importance of Lent,Easter and the resurrection of Jesus.
Personal Development & Mutual Understanding
Living Learning Together:Unit 5 – Says Who?
Love for Life Lessons: ‘Inside Out’ (Self Awareness/Friendship/Decision Making)
The Arts
Music: Confirmation Hymns. P7B will continue to prepare for Music Morning
Art:Easter Garden creation and creating a mystery story scene via different medium.
Drama: Hot seating and conscience alley in relation to Class novel
Physical Education (Please ensure all children have PE gear each Wednesday and Friday)
Team Games: Peace Players project P7A
