1. What is relative location? Give an example. Where something is located in reference to something else. Ex: Bailey Middle School is located between Bailey Park and Hough High.

2. What is absolute location? Give an exampleAn exact location on a map (coordinates or an address). Ex: Bailey Middle School is located at 11900 Bailey Rd

3. What are the 5 Themes of Geography? List them and explain each.

1. Location- where something is located

2. Place- a description of what it is like in a location

3. Region- a group of places with similar characteristics (can be cultural or geographic)

4. Movement- how people, goods and information get from place to place

5. Human Environment Interaction- How humans impact and are impacted by their environment.

4. Why do geographers study the 5 Themes of Geography? Geographers use the 5 themes of geography to organize information about the Earth and to describe the physical and human features of particular places.

5. What is a region? Give an example of a physical/geographic region and of a cultural region. a group of places with similar characteristics. Ex: Physical/Geographic- Mountain Region. Cultural- Language: A French-speaking region of a country.

6. Briefly compare and contrast maps and globes in list form. Maps- can be more detailed and zoomed in and they are more portable and convenient at times. Globes are a more accurate representation of the Earth

7. What is a pull factor? List 5 pull factors-A pull factor is a reason that attracts a person to a region. Ex: Desirable weather, good jobs, good schools, a democratic government available healthcare…/What is a push factor? List 5 push factors-

A push factor is a reason that causes a person to leave an area. Ex: natural disasters, war, unfair government, lack of jobs, lack of a clean environment…

8. What does a Map scale measure?-it compares the actual distance on the Earth to the represented distance on a map.

9. Explain the relative location of all 7 continents. You should be able to identify them on a map. 1. Africa- East of South America and South of Europe. 2. Asia- East of Europe and North of Australia. 3. Australia- South of Asia and East of Africa. 4. Antarctica- South of South America, Africa and Australia. 5. NorthAmerica- North of South America and West of Europe. 6. SouthAmerica- South of North America and West of Africa. 7. Europe- North of Africa and West of Asia

10. List all four hemispheres and what lines divide each. Be familiar with where those are located on a map and what continents are found in each. Northern (North America, part of South America, part of Africa, Europe, Asia), Southern (part of South America, part of Africa, Australia, Antarctica) , Eastern (part of Africa, part of Europe, Asia, Australia, part of Antarctica) and Western (North America, South America, part of Europe, part of Africa, part of Antarctica). The Equator divides the northern and southern hemispheres. The Prime Meridian divides the eastern and western hemispheres.
