Genocide Newsletter

...the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.”

You are going to be creating an informational newsletter on a case of genocide using Microsoft Publisher or PowerPoint. You can use any case of genocide world wide, except for the Holocaust during World War II.

In order to complete this newsletter, you are going to need to do some research on the genocide you choose. The following information must be included in your newsletter or PowerPoint:

-  A title, your name, and the date

-  A brief history/summary of the event. Make sure to include who was involved, what happened, when it occurred, where it occurred, and WHY it happened.

-  Include a brief personal story from a person who either a) committed the acts of genocide, b) witnessed it, or c) was a victim of genocide.

-  At least 4 pictures (these all need to be school appropriate)

-  A statistic of the total casualties for the event

-  The world’s reaction and assistance (if any) to the event

-  3 quotes from people who witnessed the crimes

For students who choose the newsletter:

When you open Publisher, choose publication for print (on the left side of the screen) then click on newsletter. Choose the format that you would like and press F9 to zoom onto the newsletter to begin working. In order to type, highlight the words already present and either press delete or begin writing your own words. When you go to print, make sure you are ONLY printing the pages that have content on them (i.e., 1 of 1 or 2 of 2) so you are not printing blank pages.

For students who choose the PowerPoint:

Remember you are printing this out for me to see! Please use fonts and colors that can easily be seen. You must have at least 5 slides in your presentation. When you go to print, please look at the “Print What” area and choose “Handouts 3 (or 4) per page.”
