RAYMIE AUMAN

GENESEE VALLEY 2001

Raymie was a three-sport star for Genesee Valley during his high school career. He was voted to the AlleganyCounty 1st Team All-stars in Boy’s soccer in 2000-01 and Boy’s tennis in 2000-01. His favorite and most prolific contributions came on the basketball court. He was an AlleganyCounty 1st team selection in 2000-01 and was named league MVP.

During the 2000 Section V Tournament he was named MVP for helping his team win the Class DD championship. In 2001 Raymie garnered most of the awards available in the area. He was voted 1st Team Great 8 team, 1st Team Big 30 team, Section V All-Tournament team and was AlleganyCounty’s representative at the Ronald McDonald All-star game in Rochester.

He was also selected to the 2nd team All-greater Rochester team. Raymie was a member of the National Honor Society, All-county band, Jazz band and the drama club. He received numerous model student awards and sports awards in his high school years.

After graduation he attended St. John Fisher where he competed on the Men’s basketball team from 2001-06. He was voted captain of the team on ’05-’06 and holds the record for playing in the most games in school history. His teams were very successful during his career earning the Empire 8 Championship for 3 seasons, making the Sweet 16 in ’04 and ‘05 and earning a trip to the Elite 8 in 2006. He was also voted to the All-tournament team at the Chase Tournament during the ’06 season.

During the summer of ’04 and ’05 he competed in the Empire State games and was a member of the Gold medal winning team in 2006. Raymie graduated Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.45 in 2005. He is currently living in Angelica and is enrolled in an MBA program and works as a sales consultant for Paychex, Inc.

CHARLIE SMITH

SOUTH KORTRIGHT 1958

Charlie was involved in the public education system for 35 years – the first 17 as a high school teacher and coach and the last 18 as a Superintendent at both Belmont Central School and Genesee Valley retiring in 1997. He also was directly involved in the interscholastic athletic programs during his career.

Charlie began his coaching tenure in Delaware County and coached Boy’s basketball for 8 seasons compiling a record of 80-55. His team won the league championship and Charlie was voted Coach of the Year in 1976. He then turned his attention to the Girls’ basketball team and won a league championship and garnered another Coach of the Year award in 1981. In February of 2005 he was inducted into the Delaware County Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. He also served as President of the DelawareCounty league from 1979-1985.

After entering administration Charlie continued to be involved in the sports programs. He helped develop a sportsmanship creed at Belmont CS and served on the Section V Executive Committee from 1988-1996. He spent 33 years as a baseball umpire. He was also actively involved in the community. He served as Treasurer of the Belmont Youth Board from 1985-2005. In 1989 he was given the Rotary Community Service award and was also given the Paul Harris Rotary Fellow award in 1999 and 2004.

Belmont Central School honored him with the Athletic service award in 1996 and in 2000 he was noted as the AARP Tax Counselor of the Year. Charlie was voted in to the Allegany County Hall of Fame in 2005.

BILL YOUNG

ANGELICA 1965

Bill was one of the most dominant basketball players in the history of Section V. He was the leading scorer and rebounder on three consecutive Section V Championship teams during the 1961-62, 1962-63 and 1963-64 seasons. Angelica was the first school to achieve this feat in 25 years. During the 1963 sectional tournament Bill became the 1st player to score more than 40 points in a Section V game when he poured in 46 against Honeoye in the semifinal contest. On the way to the 1963-64 championship Bill scored 39, 30 and 28 points in the three games needed to win.

During Bill’s career he rarely played the entire game because his team would be so far ahead of their opponents. He was the 1st basketball player in New YorkState history to score more than 2000 points in his high school career. We was a charter member of the Section V Basketball Hall of Fame. Bill also played on the 1964 Boy’s soccer team that won a Section V championship.

After graduation Bill attended Penn State University on a basketball scholarship and he was a 3 year starter for the Nittany Lions. He still owns the school record for the most consecutive field goals in a game against West Virginia when he went 9-9. After graduation in 1969 Bill stayed on to coach the Freshman basketball team at PennState for two seasons and he earned his Master’s degree at the same time. He received his MBA degree from Northwestern in 1993. Bill was elected to the Allegany County Hall of Fame in 2006.

He served as a Village Trustee of Lakewood, Florida from 1990-92 and as Mayor of Lakewood from 1992-98. He currently resides in Cornelius, North Carolina.

JUDY BLIVEN

BELMONT 1962

Judy was not given the chance to participate in interscholastic sports during her high school career because that was before the advent of girl’s sports programs. She was instrumental in organizing the girl’s sports programs during her teaching career at Belfast, Scio and BelmontCentralSchools.

She also served as coach for many different sports over her 33 year teaching career. She coached Belmont to a Section V championship in softball in but her major contribution came in the sport of soccer. Her overall coaching record in soccer was an astounding 391-80-31 which included 15 AlleganyCounty titles, 7 Section V Championships, and 3 trips to the NYS Final Four in 1992, 1995 and 1996.

She coached the first ever Genesee Valley team to the NYS Class D championship in 1996 and her team was also voted the Sportsmanship award. Judy was the winner of the Paul Vienna Coach of the Year award for AlleganyCounty in 1984 and in 1995 was name the New York State Girl’s Soccer Coach of the Year.

The Olean Time-Herald awards a Coach of the Year award to the Big 30 area girl’s soccer coach named in Judy’s honor. Upon retirement in 1999 Judy was the winningest Girl’s soccer coach in New YorkState history.

Judy served as Athletic Director at Belmont Central from 1990-06 and as co-athletic director of Genesee Valley from 1996-99.

She also represented Allegany County as the Girl’s soccer representative on the Section V committee and as the Section V representative to the NYS soccer committee for 5 years. Judy was selected as a charter member of the Allegany County Hall of Fame in 2004.

Since her retirement Judy has enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports and has organized a summer soccer camp for GVCS girls.

KATE BAKER

GENESEE VALLEY 1997

Kate participated in both soccer and basketball for 4 years during her high school career. In basketball during the 1995-96 season she was selected as the Section V, Class D MVP and helped lead her Belmont team to the school’s only Section V Girl’s basketball championship.

In 1997, even though she suffered a season ending knee injury, she was voted to the Great 8 team. Kate’s other passion was soccer and she excelled in many ways.

In 1995 she led her Belmont team to the NYS finals and was voted the Co-MVP of the state tournament that year. She also earned the Section V Class D MVP award. In 1996, after the creation of Genesee Valley, she was the leading scorer with 42 goals and 23 assists on the team that eventually won the Section V championship and ended the season by scoring 4 goals in the State Final Four games to bring home Genesee Valley’s only State championship.

In 1996 she repeated her awards from the year before being voted Section V MVP and Co-MVP of the NYS Tournament along with earning the title as Allegany County Player of the Year.

After graduation Kate attended Canisius College on a soccer scholarship and participated in the program for 3 seasons.

She graduated from Canisius in 2001 with a BS Degree in Marketing and continued her education at Alfred University earning a BA in Early Childhood education in 2001. She currently resides in Canisteo, NY and is employed as a 6th Grade teacher in the Alfred-AlmondCentralSchool district.
