WORDS FROM FR. JACK:
It is with great joy that I have accepted Bishop William’s assignment to serve you as your priest. I will be living in Westbury for the foreseeable future, but I will be in Smithtown on a regular basis and am available to any parishioner in either parish for any need at any time. Please do not hesitate to ask.
COMMUNICATION:
You may contact me directly at any time at 631-759-6083. This is the best way to reach me for any need. The established phone numbers for each parish will provide information about liturgical schedules and invite callers to contact me at the new number. They will not accept messages.
Email is a handy way to share information quickly but a poor excuse for a real conversation. My email is . In general, I will always prefer to speak with you in person or by phone about any matter of interest or concern.
Postal mail should be sent to 225 Ellison Avenue, Westbury, NY 11590 for immediate attention.
This bulletin is the primary vehicle for communication in our parishes. If you have an announcement, you would like to have published in the bulletin, you may email it to me, mail it to me or phone it in. In general, I will be hesitant to make announcements at the Liturgy.
Watch for the re-launch of Resurrection’s website and some new features in St. Andrew’s website. Your input, critique and participation will be welcomed.
THE SACRAMENTS:
It is important that the sick and shut in receive the sacraments regularly. Please contact me immediately if you know of a parishioner who should be visited. Phone or email will work. All I need is a name and a phone number. ANYONE who is hospitalized should receive the Sacrament of Holy Anointing. It’s not “last rites;” it’s intended to strengthen the ill and, God willing, to help them recover.
If you are expecting a child, please share the good news with me early, so that we may prepare for the Sacramental Mysteries of Christian Initiation. In the Byzantine Catholic Church, Baptism, Chrismation and Holy Eucharist are administered all together to initiates regardless of their age. I will want to meet with expecting parents to discuss the sacramental ritual and its meaning.
The Sacramental Mystery of Matrimony must be planned well in advance. Please arrange to meet with me at least six months before you intended date. Couples must participate in pre-Cana formation either personally with me over a few sessions or in one of the pre-Cana weekends available through the Eparchy of Passaic or the Diocese of Rockville Center.
PARISH LIFE:
Please let me know if you have not received offering envelopes for 2009. If you are visiting us for the first time and want to learn more about the Byzantine Catholic Church, please feel free to contact me.
I will be happy to celebrate the Divine Liturgy for your personal intentions, whether for the living or for the deceased. One of the two parochial liturgies on any Sunday can be scheduled for a private intention, so contact me, if you have special dates in mind for 2009.
I will also gladly celebrate the Divine Liturgy on weekdays at a convenient time for private intentions. The Moleben Service may be added for the living; the Panachida service for the deceased. In Westbury, Anthony Messineo can accept your liturgy intentions. (I will confirm any date and time personally). In Smithtown, please see me personally.
