RE: October Monthly Report

Facilities: We managed to weather the storms of October well so far. John W and Chris S-S have passed the maintenance torch. We have had the roof treated with baking soda, various alarms checked and batteries replaced.

The Library participated in the Shake Out earthquake drill at 10:20am on October 20. We utilized our emergency manual and called in to the emergency bridge phone number at our headquarters. This is good practice and will keep us prepared in case of a real earthquake.

Meeting Room: Ten community groups used our space in October for a total of nineteen times. The Library held nine different events, five of which were youth oriented.

Programs: Storytime is back! Serena has been busy planning fun activities for our local families. She has also incorporated two different STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs, one for younger children and one for the school aged.

We had adorable characters at the special storytime on Tuesday, October 25. Bob the Builder showed up, along with Elf, Thomas the Tank Engine and a host of others.

The Bookworms met on October 19, to discuss Orhan’s Inheritance by Aline Ohanesian. This first novel is quite timely since it is set in what we call Turkey, an area often in the news.

We had a fun time Painting Pumpkins on Monday, October 24. Paint and brushes were provided for people to decorate the squash that they brought for the occasion. A few extra pumpkins were available for anyone who forgot to bring one.

Staff: We are excited to report that we now have ergonomically correct staff chairs for all staff! We also will be welcoming our first BiblioTEC Intern next month. She will be helping Serena with programming.

Thank you to everyone who made our Comedy Night on October 22 so much fun and profitable!!
