The bench grinder, hand held dremals and buffer is a machine that we use in the art room on a daily basis. The wheels on this equipment can rotate as fast as 2500 RPM so we must use allot of caution even though we use the machine regularly. Never take your own abilities for granted that's whenaccidents happen.

  1. Wear a face shield when using the Jewelry grinder.
  2. Stand to one side when starting machine.
  3. Never use a wheel that has been dropped or received a heavy blow, even though there may be no apparent damage. Such wheels may be weakened or unbalanced enough to fly apart on start-up.
  4. Do not grind on side of the grinding wheel, only the face.
  5. Do not use excessive pressure while grinding, let the grinder do the work.
  6. Report to the teacher immediately of any cracked, broken or otherwise defective wheels.
  7. Hold work securely while grinding, use the tool rest to support the work.
  8. Do not grind aluminium or pewter. Aluminium dust is explosive. Aluminium can also create cracks in the grinding wheel.
