LINEMAN WITH VAST EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE, ALL OF WHICH
LEADS TO A REAL CAREER AS AN ELECTRIC UTILITY LINEMAN.
Job Summary: A Lineman performs several duties involved in the operations, construction, troubleshooting, and maintenance of overhead and underground energized and de-energized conductors and equipment. Work often involves climbing poles, working out of a bucket truck, working in manholes & vaults, installing transformers, capacitors, regulators, and other line equipment, while following Cooperative, NEC, NESC, REA, and OSHA and other state and regulatory agency rules and procedures. Working knowledge of the Cooperative’s distribution systems and electrical circuits. Being on stand-by call for power outages & overtime activities.
Primary Responsibilities: Climbing poles, Operating bucket trucks, aerial devices, production digger trucks. Works on overhead and underground energized power lines. Makes overhead and underground terminations and connections. Troubleshoots and restores service. Communicates with the public and with customers. Loads and unloads material & equipment. Attends in-house and special training sessions. Attends safety meetings. Wears rubber gloves, sleeves, hard hats, safety goggles, safety glasses, full body harnesses, and other safety attire. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Maintains ability to administer first aid, pole top and bucket truck rescue, and artificial resuscitation. Fills out appropriate paperwork and documentation. Maintains the ability to read and understand engineering and staking sheets. Fills out inspection sheets on equipment. Stocks trucks with proper material.
Position Requirements: High School Diploma; Lineman Training School preferred; CPR and First Aid certified or the ability to become certified; Driver’s License and/or a Commercial Driver’s License; Experience preferred but not required; Ability to demonstrate and perform job knowledge and skills in order to advance to next job level via competency assessment and/or performance evaluation; Basic math and arithmetic skills; Ability to learn Cooperative’s service territory; Ability to learn and understand basic and advanced electrical theories; Perform call out duties; Reside within a reasonable response time distance to service area; Work outdoors 95% of the time in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions for extended periods of time; Work up to 100 feet above ground level; Lift and carry 100 pounds for up to 20 feet.
