GENERAL INFO FOR VISITORS TO MOZAMBIQUE

PASSPORT/VISA

A valid passport is required. South African passport-holders do not require a visa. Other nationalities are to arrange their own Mozambican visas, preferably prior to arrival. Visas can be obtained at port of entry at a cost of US$ 95.00 per person. Contact your nearest Mozambican Embassy or Consulate for further assistance.

MEDICAL

You should carry your own complete holiday/medical insurance. Malaria: protection is imperative. Please consult your physician or local health authority regarding prophylactics.As with travel in any part of the world, it is advisable to know your blood type in case of emergency.

MONEY & EXCHANGE

The Mozambican currency (Meticals) cannot be converted back into foreign currency once exchanged. We recommend that you exchange some foreign currency for purchase of gifts etc from the locals whilst in Mozambique. South African Rands and US Dollars cash can also be used. Only Visa and Mastercard is accepted at our resorts. Travelers Cheques are not supported by Mozambican banks . Diners and Amex cards are also not accepted

TIPPING / MONEY

Tipping is not compulsory in Mozambique; however, if you are happy with the service you have received from staff, any gesture of appreciation will be enthusiastically received. Please consult your guide/host on tipping staff. Tipping is often in $US. It is recommended that one allows for spending $20 per person per day (tips, drinks etc).

VOLTAGE

Voltage is 220A. On the mainland, most hotels have electricity, on the islands, most lodges/hotels use generators – bring adapters, plugs, (square pin, English standard) and sufficient batteries.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Visitors should respect the attitude of the local people towards photography and only use cameras if they have permission for “the models” to do so. Never try to “steal” a photo against the will of the person concerned. Let your guide help negotiate terms before you start shooting! It is a good rule never to take photographs of airports, border posts persons in uniform and of course military installations. Bring twice the amount of film you will need.

FOOD & WATER

Tap water is safe to drink in some parts of Mozambique, however, unless otherwise indicated, we recommend you drink bottled water; usually available in all hotels.

INSURANCE

While every care is taken of you and your property, we cannot be held responsible for any accidents, injury, or illness that you may incur or for any loss or damage to baggage. It is essential that you and your property are fully covered by travel and cancellation insurance.
