STEP #2: Be assessed in Adult Basic Skills

This will take approximately 3 hours. The test can be taken during one visit or you may take parts until the assessment is complete. Based upon the results of this assessment and your personal goals, an individual plan will be developed and goals will be set. If you have the necessary skills you will be allowed to take the Official GED Practice Test (and skip STEP #3).

STEP #3: Attend Classes

If, after the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is scored and you are not ready to take the Official Practice Test, you will be required to attend classes. The GED prep classes are offered through the Center for Lifelong Learning at no cost. Classes will be offered in the mornings and evenings.

STEP #4: Take an Official Practice Test (OPT)

An official GED Practice Test (OPT) is required before taking the GED test. You may take the GED Practice Test at the Center for Lifelong Learning by appointment. You will need an email address or one will be created for you.

STEP #5: Take the GED

The GED consists of five sub-tests: Social Studies, Science, Interpreting Literature and the Arts (Reading), Mathematics, and Writing. Each test requires the examinee to answer multiple choice questions. The writing portion of the test requires both multiple-choice and an essay on a topic assigned at the time of the test. The GED test is given at Cardome Centre (basement). The Fall 2009 test dates are as follows:

·  July 30 & 31 2009 (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. each day)
