GC Initial: mobile app demonstrates application options for ceramic system

Just in time for the IDS 2013, dental specialist GC presents the Initial Layering Guide – a new, free app for the versatile Initial ceramic system. The configurator, available for iPhone and iPad, helps dental technicians – step by step – to get familiarwith the material and provides tips, tricks and information for the entire Initial product family.

With the Initial Layering Guide, GC presents a unique tool in dentistry and demonstrates an application that explains precisely and in three dimensions how to get the maximum out of the individual components of the ceramic layering system. The interactive guide includes each individual processing step for GC ceramic systems – Initial MC, Initial LF, Initial Ti, Initial Al, Initial Zr-FS, Initial IQ layering over metal and Initial IQ layering over zircon.

Responsible for the development is Dr Javier Tapia Guadix, a 3D designer and dentist with – as an expert in composites and developer of GC Restorative Dentistry Guides –the necessary expertise for this kind of application. Using the app, dental technicians can follow a detailed description of the processing steps on an iPhone or iPad -with 360 degree rotating illustrations and diagrams they can store the exact display on their mobile devices. Each processing step is displayed for two-layer, three-layer and four-layer techniques; for the IQ layering and application of the Lustre Pastes NF and for the Vita® Classical and Vita® 3D Mastershades. In addition, all the firing instructions for restorations on precious metal alloys and non-precious metal alloys, white and coloured zirconium frameworks and other coping materials such as titanium and aluminium oxideare included, each with a description and display of options for individual firing and optionalseparate dentine firing.

When programming, it was of paramount importance for Dr Tapia Guadix to give the user an easy to understand overview and comprehensible guide to the production process for various layers – up to the complete restoration. At each point in the step-by-step instruction the user can look at the restoration from all sides – to understand exactly how the different powders have to be applied. In the presentation it is possible to switch between standard view, translucent view and outline view at any time. In addition, the app contains firing instructions and other parameters that will allow achieving ideal results.

Just in time for the IDS and the 10th anniversary of GC’s launch of Initial, GC presents this new, free app as an extremely useful tool that can make a significant contribution to optimum use of this versatile ceramic system.
