Requirements/ Guidelines/Agreement

Graduation Date: June 20, 2002 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Minimum Day

To be eligible for graduation, potential graduate needs to:

ü  Complete a minimum of 220 Credits English 40, Math 20, Social Science 30, Science 20, Technical Arts 10, Fine Arts/Foreign Language 10, Life Skills 5, Health 5, Physical Education 20, & Elective 60.

ü  Pass all Proficiency Tests – Write, Sharp, Topics, and Objective. A grade of “C” or better in four English classes can satisfy Sharp and Language requirements. A grade of “C” or better in four math classes can satisfy Topics.

ü  Pay off all outstanding debts (textbooks, library, athletic, and others) by 3/20/02.

ü  Complete a Senior Portfolio by 4/18/02.

ü  Pay Senior Dues (cap and gown, medallion, diploma cover, portfolio cover, mailed graduate picture, and decorations) Last day to order 4/1/02.

ü  Avoid having more than two U’s on Spring Final Report Card (18th Weeks)

ü  Students with more than two U’s on their report cards will not be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Major Criteria for U’s in Work Habits and Cooperation

1.  Seldom tries to understand the purpose of his/her classwork, is inattentive, and generally disregards directions.

2.  Seldom has the necessary tools and materials and rarely works, even with urging.

3.  Makes little effort to maintain a satisfactory attendance record: is frequently absent or tardy without excuse.

4.  Seldom bothers to recheck his/her work.

5.  Disturbs the teacher and other students by consistent discourtesy and lack of consideration for others.

6.  Shows disregard for rules, has little respect for public and personal property, and often opposes the general welfare of others.

7.  Makes little attempt to improve and shows indifference to correction.

8.  Usually does not participate in and may even oppose learning activities.

Personal Development Program (work off U’s with teacher’s permission).

If a potential graduate receives more than two U’s on the 5th, 10th, or 15th Spring Report Cards, he or she must do the following:

ü  Schedule a student/parent conference with teacher to grant you permission to attend the Personal Development Workshop to work off U’s received in his or her class.

ü  Pick up a Personal Development Workshop application from Ms. Kimbrew in Room C-5 if permission is granted from teacher.

ü  If permission is granted, the student must attend a one-hour workshop on Saturdays and submit a two-page typewritten paper to the teacher, counselor, and Ms. Kimbrew. Papers will not be accepted without signature from parent/guardian.

Citizenship: Violation of any major infractions such as under the influence of any controlled substance, refusal to go to class immediately, and being extremely disrespectful will prohibit participation in the graduation ceremony and other activities.

GHS Appeal Board- members-parent, counselor, teacher, designated administrator, and student. This board will render fair, impartial, and efficient resolutions for complaints. This board is the first step for appeals, the principal is the second step, and District K is the third step.
