Game Highlights

09/17/2011 – Varsity (21) vs. Cheyenne Mtn High School (42)
09/10/2011 – Varsity (37) vs. Mesa Ridge High School (44)
Liberty lost a tough battle with Mesa Ridge. Liberty's offense was on full display as Tyler Carr took to the air and ground with equal precision in the first half. However, Mesa Ridge RB had a huge game and proved to be too much as Mesa took a late lead. Zach Hill, Dylan Flynn and Jake Vieux led the receiving for the Lancers and the Offensive Line turned in another phenomenal effort. The lancers are reloading and looking to get back on track Friday at Cheyenne.

Liberty scored so many first-half points that it attracted lightning.
The Pikes Peak 4A No. 2 Lancers (1-0) opened their season strong with a 41-0 drubbing of 3A Sierra at Harrison High School, a game that was delayed for 30 minutes at the end of the second quarter due to lightning strikes.
Liberty’s offensive fireworks in the first half were a precursor of the weather that would come soon after the Lancers took a 35-0 lead with 2:53 left in the second quarter.
Before the delay, quarterback Tyler Carr led a ferocious Liberty attack that overpowered and overmatched a smaller Sierra team from the opening kickoff.
“Our offensive staff of Shawn Flynn, Nate Sassaman and Matt James has worked really hard putting in the pistol offense we have,” Liberty coach Jaron Cohen said. “Then our kids believed in it and executed it tonight.”
Carr orchestrated seven scoring drives in the first half with a variety of misdirection runs and options that left the Stallions’ defense confused and off balance.
Running backs Shane Walker and Justin Richardson each had a pair of touchdown runs in the first half, including a 22-yard scamper by Richardson on a botched field-goal attempt that made the score 28-0.
“We came out strong, and there was just no stopping us after that. Sierra has a lot of speed and we wanted to get around the edges,” Carr said of the misdirection runs. “Coming off this game we have a lot of confidence and we’ve been working hard in the offseason.”
Carr added a 1-yard touchdown run just before the delay to make it 35-0 Lancers before halftime, adding to his team-high 113 rushing yards.
After a pair of long Derek Albaugh field goals before the half, it was 41-0.
Sierra couldn’t get much started on the offensive end from the get-go. The Stallions used five-wide receiver sets for much of the game, leaving them open to Liberty’s plethora of blitz packages that smothered the athletic Sierra runners.
The Stallions also had four turnovers and turned the ball over on downs several times.
“We’re playing sophomores and juniors and we just have to get our feet under us,” Sierra first-year coach Mark Sampson said. “We’ve got to find our identity first, and once we find it we’ll be OK. We’ll come together and things will happen.”
