Fyvie Parish Church Newsletter

September 2014

Dear friends

This summer we have enjoyed another series of well attended summer joint services with Rothienorman, and it has been a pleasant experience to see the two congregations worshipping and enjoying fellowship together.

Our summer services culminated with a Songs of Praise service as part of the Fyvie Homecoming Festival, when we were able to sing psalms –very much part of our Scottish Presbyterian heritage – and hymns to tunes which appear in our hymnary which have a Scottish connection.

During the summer months, also, the Thrift Shop and Garage sale provided a much needed service within the community, benefitting not only in terms of finance, but also in the fellowship that was enjoyed by sellers & customers alike, and our thanks are due to all who organised, helped and supported on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

We return to services at our usual time, hopefully refreshed not only by the brief change in our routine, but also by being able to join together prior to our worship to savour tea/coffee and a fine piece provided by Jean Fisher. Many thanks from us all, Jean, for your ‘generous providing’ – it is greatly appreciated.

Our Harvest Thanksgiving Service on October 12th will again take the form of a family service and will include the Sacrament of Baptism.

In November we gather to share in the Sacrament of Communion and to meet together in an act of solemn gratitude on Remembrance Sunday, more poignant in this anniversary year of the outbreak of the First World War.

There are many strands to our worship and witness – each as important and essential as the other – and it is important to our growth as a community of God’s people and Christ’s disciples that we each play our part, as we are enabled by the Holy Spirit, invigorated by our experiences of His love and grace.

May our worship and witness this autumn and winter enable us all, individually and collectively, to bring forth fruit to God’s glory.

Yours

Ian Thorburn

Stewardship

The follow up to the conference held in February was held on Wednesday 20th August 2014. The theme of the conference was “Stepping out of the Boat”. The conference sought to hear and evaluate how the objectives set previously had been met and to identify how through good stewardship practice and by ‘stepping out of the boat’, Fyvie Church could continue to look to the church of the future. Our plan is to continue with Family Services, Messy Church, and much more. Please keep reading for further information about future plans.
