Functionality in an elegant fashion
From noise- to fire-protection: SOLARIS glass blocks are suitable for the use in public buildings
The architecture of public buildings like company headquarters or offices is like the company's calling card: Bright, pleasant buildings signal openness and inspire trust. The interior- and exterior design, however, cannot only be oriented to this visual aspect. The materials used must also be functional and comply with legal requirements - for instance noise- and fire-protection regulations. The products of WGS Westerwald Glasstein GmbH prove that elegance and functionality can go hand in hand: The SOLARIS glass blocks of our company combine an attractive style with special designs for public buildings.

The assortment includes noise protection-, energy saving- and fire-protection blocks. Noise protection blocks are requested particularly for open-plan offices and noise-intensive facilities like nursery schools or schools. Despite the increased noise level, a pleasant work atmosphere should be made possible here without disturbing the character of the spacious rooms. The noise protection glass blocks, which reach the sound insulation value Rw of 40-49 dB depending on their design, can be used in a multitude of ways. In an office complex in Munich, for instance, SOLARIS products are used as a glass block wall that visually separates the work stations from the busy corridors and provides noise insulation. Nevertheless, light can pass unhindered in Both areas remain.

Translucent fire-protection and heat insulation

Even fire-protection glazing can be realised with SOLARIS glass blocks. As vertical or horizontal fire-resistant glass structures (fire-protection class F30/60/90) they assure that the spreading of fire or smoke is prevented for a certain amount of time. At the same time, of course, they bring natural light to the room's interior. Leipzig airport, for example, whose architecture is characterized by translucency, creates artistic accents in the terminal with fire-protection glass blocks as a floor surface. Arrival and departure areas are brightened; at the same time, the mandatory building requirements are met.

An additional important functional aspect that arises in the decision on construction materials for public buildings is heat insulation. The SOLARIS energy glass block is well suited for the interior of the building as well as for façade design. The special technology halves the thermal coefficient value of the classic glass block and contributes to a positive eco-balance of the building. Based on the special construction of the energy glass blocks the heat conduction of the translucent construction material is prevented and thus the thermal coefficient value is halved in comparison to the classic glass block. With their energy efficiency and the aesthetic characteristics the SOLARIS energy glass blocks are optimally suited for interior as well as exterior use.
