Elnora Joy Carstensen Cox Farnes

After a long battle with dementia, Elnora Joy Carstensen Cox Farnes passed away at Primrose Care in Billings, Montana.

Nora was born on March 12, 1935 in Reliance, South Dakota, the 2nd of 7 children born to Carsten and Emma Carstensen. On November 2, 2052, Nora married Lee Cox. To that union three children were born: Patricia (Cox) Magruder, Valerie Cox and Daryl Cox. In 1968, the family moved to Billings. Lee died on February 12, 1996. In January 1997, Nora remarried Bob Farnes, and they remained together until her death.

Nora was an exemplary homemaker, seamstress and cook. Even until she was over 70 years old, she insisted on mowing her own lawn. Her greatest joy and purpose in life was to serve her God, Jehovah. She spent as much of her time as possible following the footsteps of Jesus Christ helping to teach others Bible truths and about the hope of God’s Kingdom.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, and her brother Carsten “Sonny” Carstensen.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Farnes, siblings, Mavis Stewart; Ceil (Herb) Adsem,

Carl (Pat) Carstensen, Chris (Mary Ann) Carstensen, Henri (Don) Artz; sister-in-law Betty

Carstensen; by her children, Patricia (Rob) Magruder, Valerie Cox and Daryl (Doris) Cox; and step-children, Vicki Lee Kemp and Steve Farnes; her grandchildren, Matthew (Tisha) Blair, Ben

Blair, Nick Doherty, Erin Doherty, Edward Cox, Alexandra Cox, and Jonathan Cox; and great

grandchildren, Samantha Blair, Joel Ponto and Chance Rabideaux, and many, many beloved nieces and nephews and spiritual brothers and sisters and her faithful and protective companion, Pepper.

Nora and her family have found great strength and comfort in the Bible’s promise of a

resurrection and of a time when there will be no more pain, suffering or sorrow.

Special thanks and gratitude go to Bob Farnes who cared for Nora physically and

spiritually and made it possible for her to go the meetings as long as possible; to Dr. Jeffrey

Johnson, whose compassion and good advice helped us all through; to Rocky Mountain Hospice for their compassionate help at the end and special thanks to Cindy and Tim and the staff at Primrose Care for not just their wonderful care, but also for providing Nora with another family who truly cared for her.
