Funding Opportunity: Canada-Ontario Job Grant

The government is seeking employer involvement in training through the Canada Ontario Job Grant (COJG), which is a partnership between Government of Canada and Government of Ontario. The fund encourages employers to partner with training providers to invest in the skills of their workforce.

An opportunity exists for your organization to partner with Confederation College to seek Job Grant funds to develop a customized training plan for developing yourfuture workforce.

Funding Overview (What is it?)

  • Provides direct financial support to individual employers who wish to purchase training
  • Allows for short-term trainingto existing and new employees
  • Is available to small, medium and large businesses
  • Provides up to $10,000 per personin government support for training costs
  • Requires employers to contribute 1/3 of total training costs(with flexibility for smaller businesses to contribute in-kind towards their shared costs)
  • Is an employer-driven training initiative
  • Training meets the employer’s workforce development needs (can be customized for the organization’s needs, or can be partnership-driven to suit sector-wide needs)
  • Training is delivered by an eligible 3rd party trainer (i.e., Confederation College)

Benefits for the Organization

  • Employers choose the individuals they would like to have trained.
  • Employers choose the type of training that meets organizational or sector-wide needs.
  • Government provides direct financial support to the employer for training costs.
  • Training meets firm-specific needs, which can include:
  • Curriculum development based on business needs;
  • Essential skills assessments;
  • Delivery of customized skills training.

The Employer: YourResponsibilities

Identify your need: Indicate your willingness to participate and demonstrate your need for training.

Provide financial contribution: Employers provide a mandatory contribution toward training costs; one-third of total training costs must be contributed by the employer.

  2. An Expression of Interest is required byNovember 14, 2014.
  • The Expression of Interest provides the Ministry with information regarding your level of interest, capacity to implement training as well as readiness of employers and training partners to participate.
  • Confederation College will work with you to complete an Expression of Interest.
  • The planning and development for sector-based initiatives will have to be started now in order to meet the upcoming deadlines.
