Required for September 2016, an enthusiastic, well qualified teacher of Art, with an interest in Textiles teaching, to join an extremely successful and popular department, with excellent facilities. The postholder will be expected to deliver the subject throughout Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of ‘A’ level teaching also available.

Although applications are welcome from experienced staff, it is felt that this post may be of particular interest to Newly Qualified Teachers as Fulston Manor has an outstanding reputation for the quality of induction and professional development.

Art Department

The department consists of five full time teachers and a part time teacher.

There are four main rooms in which the department operates and a photography suite. One of the rooms houses the kiln and pug machine and another room is specifically for textiles, housing sewing machines. All art rooms are equipped with ICT access to Photoshop and a suite of AppleMac computers is also available.

In Key Stage 3 all the students gain experience and skills using a variety of 2 and 3D media. This work gives the students experience in a range of Art, Craft and Design contexts. The students have one 70 minute lesson per week of Art in groups up to 24 in number. They also experience Art based textiles for half a year.

At Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity to opt for GCSE Art and Design. Currently there are four groups in Year 10 and three groups in Year 11. The reasons for this popularity are based upon both the creative opportunities and the level of examination success. In the forthcoming year we will also be offering GCSE Photography.

Due to recent changes to ‘A’ levels we now follow a Fine Art ‘A’ Level course as well as a

The Art Department has become one of the most popular, successful and innovative departments within the school, mounting displays, holding exhibitions and generally contributing substantially to the life of the community. A successful candidate would be expected to play a full part in ensuring the continuing progress of the Department.

Each member of the department is expected to be a Form Tutor within the House pastoral system.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher to join the department. Experience of Textiles would be an advantage and, failing that, a willingness to be trained in the subject would be considered essential. The successful applicant needs to be able to teach across the full age and ability range. The post would be suitable for either an NQT or an experienced teacher. Fulston Manor School has a high quality programme of NQT induction and support.

In addition to the school’s reputation for academic success and quality pastoral care, we are also involved in a significant amount of work with other schools, both providing intensive support and delivering a wide range of training opportunities. We have close links with local universities and are particularly proud of our staff induction programmes.

Having opened a new £3.7 million Mathematics and English block in 2014, work is now underway on a similarly costed 6th Form Centre for 2016 and plans have been approved for a larger Science and general teaching block, which would complete the regeneration of the site. These projects, along with the other high quality buildings, ensure that all staff teach within an outstanding learning environment.

As lead school within a multi academy trust, which includes a local primary school, there are numerous opportunities for staff to broaden their own professional experience and to seek career progression within the school. Many of our staff have achieved internal promotion and individually tailored development programmes ensure that appropriate training and support is provided for all. Everyone is encouraged to participate in whole school improvement work and we believe that this participation is a major factor in our continuing success.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
