2013 SATURDAY FALL OUTDOOR LEAGUE REGULATIONS

1. Player Eligibility: Must have a current USTA Membership in good standing through 10/31/2013.

Must be 18 years of age, or reach 18 years by 12/31/2013. Must have a computer NTRP rating, or self-

rate when registering on a team.

2. League Fees: One-time registration fee $20.00. Match fees are $12.00 per player per match, payable to

the host facility at the time of the match prior to taking the court. Teams are to have a minimum of 5

players registered on TennisLink by August 10, 2013.

3. Team Format: Team Matches consist of one (1) singles, and two (2) doubles matches. A team shall

consist of a minimum of 5 players. Teams must field at least two (2) of the three (3) positions in order to

avoid an entire team default. A team may field a maximum of two (2) “below level” players in any one

team match. A “below level” player is defined as a player who is not more than one (1)NTRP level below

that at which the team is entered. (i.e. on a 3.5 team a “below level” player would have a rating not

lower than 3.0). A player may play on more than one team in this league. Players playing on more than

one team must register and pay the registration fee for both teams.

4. Match Times: Matches are played on Saturday afternoons, with some matches in the morning. Times

determined by facility and court availability for league play.

REGULAR SCORING!

THE TIME LIMIT FOR EACH TEAM MATCH IS 2 HRS! PROCEDURES FOR ENDING MATCHES:

a) With 15 minutes remaining, check the score at the completion of the game currently in progress.

Upon completion of the game, should one team now be ahead by 2 games, they win the set.

b) If a team is now ahead by only 1 game, play another game. If the team that was ahead by 1 game is

now ahead by 2 games they win the set. If the team that was behind by 1 game is now tied, play a 7 pt.

tiebreaker to determine the winner of the set. All tiebreakers use the Coman method to change sides.

c) If sets are now tied at one apiece, play a 7 point tiebreaker to determine the winner of the match

d) In case of extremely long matches, do not exceed the 2 hours allowed! SPIN A RACQUET TO

DETERMINE THE WINNER OF THE SET OR MATCH! IT IS INCONSIDERATE TO CONTINUE PLAY

AND MAKE THE NEXT MATCH WAIT!

e) Matches completed using the time limit are entered as “timed matches” rather than “completed” when

entering scores. (i.e. 6-0, 2-4, 1-0 “timed match.” You must win the set by two games, do not enter

actual tie-break points, just use 1-0.

5. Lateness: Penalties for Lateness: More than 15 min. = default of match

BE ON TIME! CAPTAINS SHOULD ARRIVE 15 MIN. EARLY TO EXCHANGE LINE-UPS. ONCE

LINE-UPS ARE EXCHANGED, THEY MAY NOT BE ALTERED OR CHANGED, UNLESS BOTH

CAPTAINS AGREE TO THE CHANGE. THERE IS NO ORDER OF STRENGTH. #2D IS TO BE

DEFAULTED BEFORE #1D.

(2)

6. Defaults: A team may default one individual position and still play the match. (i.e. Default #1S or #2D)

Any more than one position defaulted will result in an entire team default. Teams will be billed for unannounced defaults. Captains are responsible to notify the opposing captain and the host facility 24 hours prior to the scheduled match time should they be fielding less than a full team. This is a small format, so there should be no defaults! Entire Team Defaults will be referred to the League Grievance Committee for the appropriate disciplinary action.

7. Matches are not to be rescheduled unless for weather i.e. rain, snow, hail, lightning, darkness.

All matches that are rescheduled are to be played at the original host facility. Failure to follow this

regulation will result in additional billing to the teams. Matches are team matches and are to be

rescheduled as team matches. Should matches that have started be interrupted by weather, the players

will have to pick up the match where they left off when interrupted, keeping track of the scores, who was

serving, etc. Captains must call the league office with the new match date of any rescheduled match.

(Call 944-8790). If captains cannot agree on a reschedule time or date, the match will be rescheduled

by the League Coordinator. All matches must be played by October 12, 2013.

8. Players may be added to the roster through the end-date of the league, October 12, 2013.

9. Grievances: All grievances must be submitted to the League Office, in writing, and on the proper form

prior to the commencement of the next league match, or within 24 hours of the end-date of the league,

whichever comes first. A $30.00 non-refundable administration fee must accompany all grievances. All

parties to the grievance will be notified in writing of the decision of the League Grievance Committee.

There are no championships or playoffs for this league! There will be team awards for the winning teams.

The matches played in this league count towards NTRP year-end Ratings. The matches are un-officiated matches, and are played according to “The Code”. If players will follow the principles of “The Code” they should always be able to reach agreement, while at the same time making tennis more fun and a better game for all. Tennis is a game that requires cooperation between the participants.

HAVE FUN!
