Fryern Federation School Breakfast Club
Information for Parents/ carers.
Fryern School Breakfast Club provides childcare for parents from 7.45am Monday to Friday, term time only. We do not operate Breakfast Club on School Closure days.
Children need to arrive by 8.15am if they wish to have breakfast.
The session rate is £3.50. (irrespective of time of arrival) which includes a healthy breakfast.
Breakfast will consist of:
- Fruit juice or a milky drink
- Cereal and/or toast (with various toppings)
- Yoghurt and fruit
Educational games and toys will be provided for the children attending Breakfast Club after they have finished their breakfast.
We encourage children to develop positive personal and social skills associated with eating together e.g. manners, passing cutlery or toppings, conversation skills, turn taking and sharing.
In addition, we encourage the children to develop healthy habits, including washing hands before eating, and brushing teeth after breakfast. We ask that you provide a toothbrush and tube of toothpaste in anindividually named zippy walletfor your child to keep at breakfast club.
The Breakfast Club is fully inclusive and open to all children who attend Fryern Infant and JuniorSchools. We promote equal opportunities in line with School policy. We will take all reasonable steps to enable any children with disabilities to attend.
Booking arrangements:
Initial bookings should be accompanied by a deposit in order to secure a place. Please call in at the Infant School office if you wish to discuss payment arrangements. Payments should be made in advance by cash or cheque (cheques made payable to Fryern Infant School). Online payment is also available and a registration code will be sent at the start of the new school year. If you wish to use childcare vouchers please contact Mrs Board at the Junior School.Occasional sessions may be booked and paid for no later than the night before (space permitting) at the SCHOOL OFFICE. Payments will not be refunded in the case of non-attendance. Our Breakfast Club Policy outlines a more detailed criteria for admission to Breakfast Club (copies are available from the School Office).
Welfare Arrangements:
Our priority is to ensure that whilst enjoying a happy and healthy breakfast, all children are kept safe from harm. In order to ensure this the following arrangements are in place:
- At least one member of the Breakfast Club staff holds a full first aid certificate as well as a Paediatric First Aid qualification (for administering first aid to young children).
- At least 2 suitable members of staff are on the premises at all times when the Breakfast club is in operation.
- We aim to encourage good behaviour by positive reinforcement, praise and setting clear expectations. Procedures for dealing with any misbehaviour are in line with Fryern School Behaviour Policy (copy available from the school office). Parents will be informed of any serious misbehaviour.
- A No Smoking Policy is in operation.
- In all cases a registration card needs to be completed and returned prior to the 1st visit. Please keep all emergency contact details up to date and inform us immediately of any changes. Please also detail any allergies or medical needs that your child has.
Safeguarding Arrangements:
The following arrangements are intended to safeguard children from abuse or neglect and are in line with Fryern Policy and procedures:
- The Breakfast Club follows the Child Protection Policy and Procedures of Fryern Federation. (Copy available from the school office).
- At least one member of staff has had basic child protection training and is familiar with procedures to safeguard children. Any concerns would be discussed with parents, and/ or the Child Protection Officer at the appropriate school.
- All Staff working in the Breakfast Club have been subjected to appropriate suitability and employment checks (e.g. list 99, enhanced CRB disclosures). Staff employed in the Breakfast Club are skilled members of staff who have many years experience of working with young children.
Qualifications and Training:
Breakfast Club Staff have received recent and relevant training in the following areas:
- Fire Safety
- First Aid
- Paediatric First Aid
- Basic Food Hygiene
- Administration of Epipens (anaphylaxis).

Suitability and Safety of premises and equipment:
Arrangements and procedures are in place to ensure that children are unable to leave the premises unsupervised. In addition, no-one can enter the premises without the knowledge of the Breakfast club staff.
A risk assessment of the premises and equipment is undertaken annually and any necessary measures are taken to minimise any identified risks.
Children are escorted to the JuniorSchool or Infant School playground at 8.45 a.m. by a member of the Breakfast Club team and handed over into the care of the relevant person on duty.
Any accidents which involve children at Breakfast Club are recorded in the Accident Book, detailing the nature of the accident, date, time, and any action taken by a first aider. In the case of JuniorSchool children, Breakfast Club staff will inform the JuniorSchoolof the accident. Parents will be informed of any accidents that require more serious attention, in line with First Aid policy. (Copy available from the school office).
Administration of Medicines:
Breakfast Club staff will not be responsible for the administration of any medicines to children, (except in the case of children who have long term conditions where prior written consent will be obtained from parents). This is in line with the Administration of Medicines Policy (copy available from the school office). Parents are asked to detail any medication that their child is permitted to self administer e.g. asthma inhalers, and again your written consent must be given. Records of any medicine administered will be kept in line with the school policy. Junior School Staff will be informed if any child has needed to take medication whilst at Breakfast Club.
Complaints Procedure:
We hope that you are very happy with the service that we provide at our Breakfast Club. However, if you are unhappy with any aspect of the service you can speak to the Headteacher, Mrs. Angela Morrow. We will ensure that any complaint is fully investigated and will inform you of the outcome of any written complaint within 20 days of receipt.
In line with OFSTED regulations, all records will be retained for a period of 2 years.
