Front Page Newspaper: Pre A.P. Spring Project (200 points)
Activities: Due May 4th by class time. No late paper accepted
You are to create a newspaper with the headliner and date being the assigned topic that you have been assigned or selected.
1. Your newspaper should not be any larger than the paper that is available in the classroom. However, you do NOT have to use the available classroom paper.
2. Your newspaper may be published any where, given any appropriate newspaper name but it must be consistent with the bias of your newspaper. An example: If you give a newspaper the name of the Atlanta Star, your newspaper will have a southern bias, therefore all your articles will have a southern bias including the advertisements.
3. You are the publisher and may write or create any newspaper that you wish to publish, however these are the requirements for the grading purposes:
a. All articles must be appropriate for time, place and events.
b. You must have at least one political cartoon that you create which takes a political stand on an issue of the time period.
c. You must have at least two advertisements that you create.
d. You must have at least one editorial: An article with a personal opinion.
e. You are required to use your given topic as the headline and to create an informed article about the facts of this topic. Not only the information that is on the headline worksheet, but you must research and add that information to your story. This will be the top story and will be the first article on your newspaper. It is the most important article that sells newspapers! Make it worthy!
f. Be creative and informative with this activity. Some suggestions for added interest for your newspaper.
- Give a weather report (remember the available technology of the time and the season related to your publican date)
- Find human interest stories which will interest your readers. An example: Fred Combs found a trunk full of jewelry and gold in his barn last Thursday. He believes the story of this trunk is…etc.
- Have obituaries, marriage notices, bankruptcy notices and so on.
- Just be creative!
v. Write your own story and be careful to follow the rules regarding plagiarism. Any article that is plagiarized will result in a zero on this project.
g. You may type, write or paste your newspaper.

- Headline article (research & informative): 80 points
- Editorial: 30 points
- Political Cartoon: 30 points
- Advertisements: 30 points
- Creative articles & creativity: 30 points
