Title: Creating liaison relationship between JSR 307 and IEEE 802.21 WG

Dear Mr.Milikich and Mr. Overtoom,

The IEEE 802.21 working group is creating standards to optimize mobility in a media independent fashion. The draft standard defines primitives that can enable users to be aware of the network and connection conditions, control the link characteristics underneath sessions in progress, and optimize IP session continuity during handover on mobile devices. There appears to be similar work in Java Specification Requests (JSR) 307: Network Mobility and Mobile Data API.

On behalf of the IEEE 802.21 Working Group, we would like to offer our work for consideration as input for the JSR 307 work and express our interest to create a liaison relationship with JSR 307 for that purpose. We also invite JSR 307 members to present an overview of the JSR 307 work at the IEEE 802 Wireless Interim Session in September 2007 to be held at HiltonWaikoloaVillage, Waikoloa, Hawaii, USA (

We look forward to establishing the liaison and having fruitful discussions between our groups.

Best Regards,

Vivek Gupta
