From Time to Time ______County EMS Has Full and Part Time Vacancies for Entry-Level Field

From time to time ______County EMS has full and part time vacancies for entry-level field operations (EMT’s and Paramedics) positions that are filled from outside CountyGovernment. All open positions are advertised by the ______County Personnel Department, and all applications must be processed through the Personnel Department. It is the policy of ______County EMS to fill all field operations vacancies above the entry level (Crew Member) through Shift Supervisor by promotion within its own ranks. The MINIMUM qualifications necessary to be considered for hiring at an entry level field operations position are a current active Iowa. EMT certificate, and a valid Iowa. Drivers License.

The following is the procedure for new employee hiring. This procedure may be modified for employees other than field operations personnel.

  1. All applications received form the Personnel Department are screened by the Assistant Director. The most qualified applicants are referred to the ______County EMS Testing Committee for practical skills and knowledge testing.
  1. The ______County EMS Testing Committee, under the direction of the Shift Supervisor responsible for personnel, meets quarterly or as needed to evaluate all applications currently considered active, and schedules upcoming test dates.
  1. The EMS Personnel Coordinator notifies all active applicants of the upcoming test date, and schedules applicants for testing as they respond. Any applicant who does not respond to three (3) notices of testing will no longer be considered active. Inactive applications will be returned to the Personnel Department.
  1. Written and practical test by the Testing Committee
  2. Background check by the Personnel Supervisor
  3. Test Committee advises EMS Assistant Director as to all results
  1. The EMS Assistant Director interviews qualified applicants and makes final hiring recommendation to the EMS Director. The EMS Director is responsible for the final decision regarding hiring of all personnel within ______County EMS. At the discretion of the Director, qualified applicants who are not chosen for hiring may be retained in a “pool” for consideration of future vacancies for six months.
  1. The official start date for all new employees will be the first day of a pay period.
  1. Selected applicants are contacted by the EMS Personnel Coordinator for scheduling of the employment physical prior to their official start date.
