Jews for Jesus versus The Bible

What the Bible really says about Jews for Jesus’ claims

Claim 1: Jews for Jesus claims that Jesus fulfilled all Messianic prophecies during his lifetime, approximately 2,000 years ago.

The Bible says that when the Messiah comes, all war will end, every Jew will be gathered from across the world and returned to Israel, The HolyTemple will be rebuilt in Jerusalemand all of the world will acknowledge G-d as the only true G-d. These are just a few of the Messianic prophecies that Jesus did not fulfill.

(e.g. Isaiah 11:12 & 66:23, Micah 4:3, Ezekiel 37:26 – 28)

Claim 2: Jews for Jesus claims Jesus had the proper family genealogy, as a descendant of King David, to be the Messiah. Specifically, his family lineage can be traced through his mother, Mary, and his adoptive father, Joseph.

The Bible traces family genealogy through the birth father. Jews for Jesus claims that Jesus had a “divine” birth father hence he cannot also be the Messiah.

(e.g. Genesis Chapter 10 & 11:10-32, Exodus 6:14-25, Numbers 26:5-51, 2 Samuel 7:8-16)

Claim 3: Jews for Jesus claims that Jesus was not only a man, but also a god.

The Bible is clear that G-d is not a man. Moreover, the Bible tells us not to put our faith in humans, only in G-d.

(Numbers 23:19, Hoshea 11:9, Ezekiel 28:1-10, Psalm 146:3-5)

Claim 4: Jews for Jesus claims that atonement can only come through a blood sacrifice.

The Bible says that atonement can come through many paths such as repentance from bad behavior, engaging in righteous behavior, charity and prayer. The Bible also says that these methods are better than sacrifice

(Isaiah 1:11-18, Proverbs 16:6 & 21:3, Micah 6: 7-8, Jonah 3:5-10, Hoshea 14:2-3)

Claim 5: Jews for Jesus claims that Jesus was a sacrifice for sins.

The Bible says that the proper items for sacrifices are bulls, goats, sheep, turtle-doves, pigeons or flour. By definition, all other items are illegal. Moreover, human sacrifice is specifically mentioned as a forbidden sacrifice in the Bible.

(e.g. Leviticus Chapters 4 &5, Deuteronomy 12:29-31, Jeremiah 19:4-6, Psalm 106:37-38, Ezekiel 16:20-21)
