Subject: ERASMUS INSTITUTIONAL DATA UPDATE

Oviedo, 16 June 2008

Dear Colleague,

I would first like to thank you for your co-operation within the last year with the Lifelong Learning Bilateral Exchange Programme.

In order to be able to prepare the next academic year 2008-2009 in detail, I am taking this opportunity to send you some information concerning our University which I hope you will give to the students who may be interested in coming to the University of Oviedo under the terms of this exchange agreement.

May I ask you to pay particular attention to the following points:

Registration, enrolment procedures, and all our normal courses descriptions are available in these web addresses:

Application forms and procedures:

Those of your students planning to study at our University the next academic year under the International Exchange programme should complete the Student Application form and the Learning Agreement, those headed Erasmus Agreement Forms. This should be done in close consultation with their contact person of the agreement at your University or referring to the above web addresses, which will help them to gain access to the information about our Official Syllabuses and exchange student’s opportunities at the University of Oviedo.

All completed forms should be returned to our office at the following address:

Vicerrectorado de Internacionalización y Cooperación al Desarrollo

Universidad de Oviedo, SPAIN

C/ Principado 3, 33007 OVIEDO

Tfno: 34-985-104030; Fax: 34-985-104049

The deadline for the return of all forms will be the second fortnight of July 2008 for semester 1 and year long students (those starting in October 2008), and the first fortnight of November 2008 for semester 2 students (starting in February 2009).The forms should be returned to us by the corresponding Coordinator/Head of the International Relations Office, rather than by individual students.

This office also registers all incoming exchange students, so that it is absolutely essential for them to come here as soon as they arrive in Oviedo.

Visa Information:

All foreign students coming from non European Union Countries will need visas to study in the University of Oviedo. Please stress this to the students, as those coming without visas will not beregistered at the University. Since the students will need some supporting documents from the OviedoUniversity for their visa application, please encourage them to send their applications for study here as soon as possible. More information is available here:

Those students whose study period is less than 6 months and who have a Student Visa valid for that period of time, will not need to apply for any special permit once they arrive in Oviedo. However, if they are planning to stay more than those 6 months, they should apply, once they arrive in Oviedo, for: a “Foreign Identity Card” and for a “Stay permit in Spain” (“Autorización de estancia por estudios”) in the Foreign Office at the Police Station in Oviedo .

Arrival:

We suggest students arrive at least 2/3 days before the classes start (Wednesday 1st October 2008 for Semester 1 and Thursday 19th February 2009 for Semester 2). This will give them enough time to settle into their accommodation, register for classes, visit University Dependencies, etc. before classes start on. Please note that there will be a welcoming session on the 3rd of October.

Accommodation:

There are different accommodation options: hotels, boarding houses, youth hostels, halls of residence, rented flats and accommodation with families. The options most frequently used by foreign students are rented flats shared with other students and accommodation with families. The Service de Relations Internationals helps Erasmus students to find accommodation once they have arrived in Oviedo. More information on this web address:
