3.NSERC Research Tools and Instruments Grants

For all applicants interested in applying to the NSERC RTI Grants, please be advised that NSERC has an institutional quota of 45 applicants. UBC is utilizing a peer review committee to pre-select the institutional quota, which are then submitted to the national RTI competition.

4.US Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Alzheimer’s Research Program - Preannouncement

The Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Alzheimer’s Research Program has announced the following upcoming funding opportunities. This News Release is only intended to allow investigators time to plan and develop applications. A formal Program Announcement with pre-application and application details will be released on Grants.gov in September 2014.

1.Convergence Science Research Award (CSRA)

The FY14 CSRA is intended to support efforts to generate research resources and tools, or novel research efforts for professionals and practitioners in health sciences related to the PRARP’s mission. Applications must address any of the CSRA Overarching Challenges and Focus Areas described here.

2.Quality of Life Research Award (QUAL)

The QUAL objective is to reduce the burden on caregivers and individuals affected by the common symtoms of both traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer’s disease, especially in the military community. Applications must address one or both of the OUAL Overarching Challenges and any of the Focus Areas described here.

3.Military Risk Factor Research Award (MRFA)

The intent is to facilitate high-impact, systematic, population-based research investigating the association between traumatic brain injury and the subsequent development of Alzheimer’s disease. Applications must address the MRFA Overarching Challenge and any of the Focus Areas described here.

UBC Research Orientation Day – August 27th, 2014

Research Orientation Day is a FREE annual, day-long event intended for assistant, associate and full professors who are new to UBC's Vancouver campus (and affiliated health research institutes) since January 1, 2012. This year’s event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 2014 and will connect new faculty members with research support units and available resources. New researchers will also meet experienced faculty, research directors and other new faculty.
Presentations include an overview of support services available to researchers in all disciplines, advice on securing funding, and an introduction to research ethics and financial compliance procedures. Attendance is not mandatory but is strongly recommended.

If you have any questions about grant processes or specific research grant project accounts administered by the Office of Research Services, a grant representative will be available to answer these questions.
