American Border Security Suffers at the Hands of Congress Again

What do the American people have to do to convince congress and the President that we want them to secure our country’s bordersand protect us from the illegal alien invasion that is slowly but surely destroying this country?

Congress has just passed a bloated a 3,500-page, $555 billion dollar Omnibus budget bill that clearly demonstrates how Congress and the President are out of touch with the American people on the issues of border security and illegal immigration. This outrageous spending bill was written by the Democrat majority and passed 253-154, mostly with their votes, but with Republican help as well.

How many of our representatives and senators do you think actually read the two-foot think bill they voted on? After all, they had just over one day to read the entire 3,500 pages. That would require them to readover two pages a minute for 24 hours with no breaks of any kind. I’m pretty sure none of them read the entire bill. That’s aserious problem. Congress is routinely voting onlegislation most of them haven’t read. We need a ‘Read the Bills Act’ requiring members of congress tocertify that they have read the bills and understand them before they vote on them.

In addition, the Heritage Foundation has identified 9,241 earmarks in the Omnibus budget bill, totaling just over $23.5 billion of the taxpayers money. The people of America may not have gottenmuch out of this bill other than a huge increase in spending, but the special interests surely have.

Remember last year when members of congress were on the receiving end of the American public’s outrage over their inability to secure our border. They were so intimidated by the American voters that they passed the "Secure Fence Act" that specifically called for at least 2 layers of reinforced fencing, the installation of additional physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras and sensors at five specific stretches of border totaling approximately 700 miles. Here we are over a year later and only five miles of double-layer fencing has been built. This legislation reduces the double fencing to single fencing in many areas and it either reflects congressional incompetence or it is a deliberate attempt by members of congress to destroy the border security of our country.Defunding parts ofthe Secure Fence Act will only allow more drug smugglers, criminals, terrorists and illegal aliens to enter the United States through our non-secure border with Mexico.

The American people should also be aware that there is also a bill currently in Congress (HR-1999) to fund the National Council of La Raza, an anti-assimilation, pro-illegal alien organization. This bill asks the American people to give this pro-amnesty organization $5 million dollars in 2008 and $10 million a year for each fiscal year thereafter. This is like paying for the rope of yourexecutioner so he can hang you.

To add insult to injury to the American peoples’ demand for a secure border and astop to illegal immigration, the 110th Congress failed to adopt a ban on federal aid to sanctuary cities that prevent government employees and law enforcement officers from asking about immigration status; voted topospone implementation of stricter ID standards at border crossings; and somehow still found enough taxpayers money to provide $10 million in "emergency" funding for attorneys of illegal aliens. Congress is definitely not listening to the majority of the American people.

“There is no doubt that the American people have the best congress that special interest money can buy.” John Wallace.
