Check out the doors!

The long-term project mentioned in the last newsletter is now complete. It took a little longer than expected, but the results are impressive. The shelves of local history and special books in the rotunda are now fitted with hand-crafted oak and glass doors. It is great to see the problem of preserving these volumes solved in such a beautiful way.

Recent Friends activities

The Friends sponsored a decorated Christmas Tree for the Senior Center raffle festively created by Children’s Librarian Marina Salenikas. It was a hit, I’m told.

A new microwave oven was donated to the Library staff, which has improved lunchtime.

The Library now has a public performance license courtesy of the Friends which will allow the showing of recent movies. This means more children’s and youth programs.

Did you catch the Lizzie Borden reenactor? In the recreation of her trial, the audience found her not guilty.

Finally, through the generosity of those who drop off almost new books for our sales, the Friends added over 1000 items to the Library’s collections. With the Library’s budget tighter than ever, this means a lot

A great idea
If you are looking for a great way to honor someone or to create a memorial, consider donating a sum to the Library to acquire books or other materials on a subject they enjoyed. Special book plates will be created with the wording you choose. For more information talk with Mary Rose Quinn, our new Director.
