SUPPORTERS OF CHILTERN SCHOOL (SOCS)

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)

Wednesday 27th September 2017 at 7.30pm – Secondary Site

CHAIRPERSONS REPORT

This report is an overview of the Supporters of Chiltern School roles and activities for 2016-17.

First and foremost, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has kindly given their time, expertise and enthusiasm toSOCS over the last year. We have managed to run this group with limited manpower however, in spite of our small team we have managed to make a huge difference to the bank balance and more importantly the school.

Overall, I feel our first year as a SOCS Group has been a successful one and the activities and fundraising events co-ordinated to support the school and pupils have generally been well received. It is important to highlight the commitment and dedication of theSOCS Group members without whom we would not be able to exist. Moving forward, I feel it is important to recruit new members so that we can continue to expand on our current fundraising efforts. Their support would enable us to provide a wider range of activities and enhance the opportunities for the pupils.

Here is a brief overview of some of the activities over the last 12 months.

ACTIVITIES:

  • ‘Been There Done That’ Send Home Sheet – A sheet was sent home to families with lists of various activities written on. If you had done the activity listed you would write your name on it and pay £1 for the privilege. Very successful and raised a lot of money for relatively no effort.
  • Santa Wrap – Gifts were purchased for approximately £1 and then sold back to the children for £2 wrapped. Enjoyable event for both children and parents alike!
  • Christmas Jumper Day – Children and Staff were allowed to come into school wearing a Christmas Jumper and pay a donation to take part.
  • Christmas Raffle –
  • Easter Raffle –
  • Mothers/Fathers Day Wrap – Another enjoyable event – same format as Santa Wrap!
  • Summer Fete – The sun shone for a fantastic summer fete held in June. This was most definitely our biggest event this year with lots of organising and sleepless nights for those involved! We can draw a lot from the day and moving forward, hopefully make adjustments where necessary to make next years even better. Well done and Thank you to all of those who helped from the planning stage right through to clearing up at the end of the day!

FUNDS SPENT:

The Treasurer’s Report details the financial accounts which Wendy will outline shortly.

We are yet to set our official fundraising target (something I wish to bring up later on) but due to the monies raised, it has been possible for SOCS to fund various school activities and events, including: A gift for every child at Christmas, Easter chocolates, contributions to the hardship fund, supported the Leaver disco, continued to support the Café, and many other day-to- day things!

THE FUTURE:

We have our next big event on Saturday 25th November 2017 – The CHRISTMAS BAZAAR! Hopefully plans will soon be under way for a fantastic day and fingers crossed for a good turn out! If everyone is in agreement, I think it would be a good idea to also re-run the activities we organised last year also and I welcome any suggestions for new ones too.

OVERALL

Overall the SOCSGroup remains committed to Chiltern School and its pupils. Future events are being organised, however these cannot be held without the on-going support of the current and new committee members.

It is hoped we can continue to promote the group to new members, as without them we cannot carry on with these much loved events which enhance our children’s lives at school.
