ATTENTION UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Fresno Gem and Mineral Society Scholarships for

California State University Fresno Students

·  Scholarships Awarded for Senior Thesis or for Summer Field Class.

·  We have $3000 total this year available for scholarships (one individual will not receive more than $1000). Dollar amount may vary depending on number of qualified applicants. We would like to maximize the number of scholarships and awards so ideally we would give 6- $500 scholarships.

Scholarship Criteria

·  Majoring in Geology

·  Junior or Senior Status

·  2.5 grade point average minimum

·  Completed scholarship application

·  Biographical Essay including description of education and career goals.

·  Funds to be used exclusively for Summer Field or Senior Project.

Recipient Responsibilities

·  Prepare and present lecture to Fresno Gem and Mineral Society outlining objectives and conclusions of field work.

·  Helping at the rock table at the fair.

·  Be willing to help in club activities.

·  Submit one short article for the CHIPS newsletter or for website outlining how the scholarship helped out with their fieldwork and research.

Recipient Benefits

·  Honorary membership to the Fresno Gem and Mineral Society including access to workshops, facilities, fieldtrips and other privileges associated with annual membership.

Autobiographical Essay

On a separate paper, submit a typed essay describing your educational and career goals, your community and school involvement, and any special or unique circumstances you would like to share with the scholarship committee.

You must submit a copy of your senior thesis proposal or information on the summer field you would like to attend.

Return completed application to the EES Department Office by April 21, 2013.
