Secaucus, NJ (September 2013) – Freshpet, the only company making fresh, refrigerated food for dogs and cats nationwide, is teaming up with Detroit Dog Rescueto help encourage adoption of the growing number of stray dogs in Detroit. As families in Detroit struggle to meet financial obligations, many are unable to continue to care for their pets, leaving tens of thousands of dogs abandoned on the streets. As America’s largest bankrupt city, Detroit has over 70,000 vacant structures – many now occupied by these homeless dogs, in need of a warm home and loving family.
The problem continues to grow, and organizations likeDetroit Dog Rescuecan only do so much to help rescue, care for, and find homes for these homeless dogs. Freshpethopes to help alleviatethe problem by encouraging people to adopt a new family member from Detroit Dog Rescue. For every dog adopted, Freshpet will provide new pet owners with a leash, collar, and a week’s supply of their locally sourced, nutritiousfoods. Freshpet will also donate $2000 in much-needed funds to the Detroit Dog Rescue.
