When is Football Registration?

Registration is Thursday, August 1st, Friday, August 2nd and Monday, August 5th from 3-5 p.m. at Houston High School. Equipment check-out will take place during registration.

What is required for Football Registration?

You must have a completed Athletic /Activity Participation Registration Form with a copy of your current physical at registration. This form can be found at www.matsuk12.us under the “District Forms and Docs” tab, click the “Parent & Student Forms.” In order to be eligible for football, returning players must have a current physical, have taken and passed a minimum of 5 classes, and have a 2.0 GPA for the 2nd Semester, not just the 4th quarter. No player may practice without these required items completed.

How much is it going to cost to play HHS Football?

·  Mat-Su Borough School District Sport Participation Fee: $150.00. This payment may be made by cash, check made out to HHS or by credit/debit card online at www.matsuk12.us. Click the “Parent” link in the top right hand corner, choose “Online payments”, then choose the “Pay School Fees Online”. No player will be allowed to play in a game until this fee is paid.

·  Hawks Football Booster Fees: $100. This payment may be made by cash, credit card, or check made out to Hawks Football Booster Club,. This fee may be waived through fundraiser monies raised by your athlete. Families with multiple players will be capped at $150.00 for two football players and a maximum of $200.00 for three or more football players. Please contact Hawks Football Booster Club at if you have any questions regarding these fees.

·  Sport Physical: $25.00-$55.00*estimated cost

·  Cleats: $50.00-150.00 *Depending on brand chosen

Optional, but not required…

·  July Fundamentals Camp: Fee $20.00. July 29nd-August 2nd from 3p.m. to 7 p.m. Players are asked to bring a liter sized water bottle, appropriate clothing, a snack, and cleats.

Where do I get a Sport Physical?

You can obtain a sports physical from your primary care physician. You can also obtain them from several health clinics around the valley. When we get closer to the start of the football season some clinics offer sport physicals at a highly discounted price. Players cannot begin attend practice without this being completed.

When and where are the first games?

Varsity and Junior Varsity games open the weekend of August 17th at Houston High School. Our first opponent will be Sitka High School.

What and when is the Hawks Links picnic?

The Hawks Links Picnic is a celebratory feast to kick-off the football season. All Hawks Football Players and their families are invited to attend. If your athletes last name begins with * A-M bring a side dish (baked beans, chips, salads) *N-Z bring a dessert (cookies, cupcakes, cake, brownies). The booster club will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, plates, flatware, cups and napkins. The Hawks Links picnic will be at Houston High School following practice, August 9th, around 7:00 PM. This is a great time to meet the other parents on the team, get introduced to the Hawks Football Coaching Staff, and get the latest information on the program including practice times. Volunteers are needed for the BBQ. Please contact our Hawks Football Booster Club at , if you are able to help.

Team Photo Day?

Photos will be taken by Houston High School’s BPA Program. Individual player, as well as team photos will be taken at this time. Information on purchasing keepsake pictures will be handed out at practice and posted on our website.

Can my athlete use his own helmet or shoulder pads?

No, liability restricts personal equipment usage.

Does my athlete need extra pads or equipment?

An athletic supporter is highly recommended. If an athlete/parent feels they need extra protective equipment such as Under Armor®, gloves, hand pads, elbow pads or bracing, it is the athlete’s responsibility to purchase said items and must have an NHSFA tag.

What is the Practice Schedule?

The first official practice is Monday, August 5th. For the first week, practice will be from 3p-7p. This will change slightly when school starts, and these times will be available during the second week of practice.

What level will my athlete play at and will there be any cuts made?

All freshmen and any sophomores who have never played organized football will be placed on the JV/C Team. All seniors, juniors, and sophomores that show the skill sets necessary for Varsity football will play at the Varsity level. Our goal is to have all athletes participate. Participation in the Hawks Football Program is a privilege.
