DearMr Browne
Freedom of Information (FoI) Act Response
Thank you for your request for information from Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Date request received:09 January 2015
Full reply required by:05 February 2015
The Trust has now completed its search for the information you requested.
Your FoI request and the Trust’s response is set out below:
I have the following question relating to physiotherapy services in Queens Hospital, Burton. Please provide the following figures for your most recent 12 month accounting period for staff, including agency and temporary workers, engaged in inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy treatment at the above hospital. Please do not include figures for staff involved in community physiotherapy services.1. / The number of full time equivalent (FTE) physiotherapy staff at each qualified NHS staff grade: 8, 7, 6, and 5. Ie the number of FTEs at each grade.
Band 8 = 2.89 WTE
Band 7 = 12.79 WTE
Band 6 = 17.04 WTE
Band 5 = 7.0 WTE
Total = 39.72 WTE
2. / The number of patients seen by physiotherapy staff - ie the number of unique patients per FTE person-month, by staff grade.
We do not record the above information by staff grade, therefore, we are unable to provide it.
3. / The number of patient sessions conducted by physiotherapy staff - ie the number of patient sessions per FTE person-month, by staff grade.
We do not record the above information by staff grade. We would only be able to provide the number of individual patients seen each month in Outpatients, Group Sessions and Home Visits. If this information would be of use to you please contact me and I can arrange to provide it to you.
4. / The number of hours of patient contact by physiotherapy staff - ie the number of hours spent with patients per FTE person-month, by staff grade.
We do not hold data in this format. It is the Trust’s expectation that 70% of each therapist’s time is patient contact.
5. / The number of hours devoted to management duties by physiotherapy staff - ie the number hours per FTE person-month, by staff grade.
It is not formally recorded how many hours physiotherapy staff spend on management duties, therefore, we are unable to provide the above information.
6. / The number of hours reserved for training and continuing professional development - ie the number hours per FTE person-month, by staff grade.
Staff mandatory training (all bands) = 15 hours per year.
Internal IST (in-service training)
Band 2 toBand 4 (non qualified staff) = 1 hour per month
Band 5 = 1 hour per month
Band 6 = 1 hour per month
Band 7 = 1 hour per month
Staff undertake additional competency based training as appropriate to needs. Staff also attend external training and CPD as appropriate to needs and identified in appraisal, however, this information is not recorded in the format you have requested above.
7. / The number of hours actually booked to training and continuing professional development - ie the number hours per FTE person-month, by staff grade.
All staff are expected to remain compliant with mandatory training at 15 hours per year. A formal record is not held of the actual number of hours each member of staff attended training and CPD, however, the expectation is that they attend each of the IST’s above (under question 6) for each month.
