FREEDOM OF INFORMATION – APPLICATION REFERENCE 2015/32

Thank you for your application under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 ("the Act") in relation to sickness figures within Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

The request is:

Please send me the following information, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000:

1)How many members of your staff had a sick day in 2013, 2014 and up to and including April 1, 2015? Please provide a month by month breakdown.

2) What is the sick pay entitlement for a full time member of staff atHumberside Fire and Rescue Service?

3)How much money has Humberside Fire and Rescue Service paid to its staff for their sick days in 2013, 2014 and up to and including April 1, 2015?

Please treat points 1 to 3above separately. In other words, if the information requested in one point is deemed exempt, this fact should not be used to justify refusal of the information sought in the other points.

If working on sourcing the information for one point exceeds the timeframe, please only answer those which do not.

I believe that, under theFOIA, I am entitled to this information and I believe it can be provided within the time and cost limits set by the legislation. If you disagree, then please contact me as soon as possible to discuss this, in line with Section 16 of theFOIA.

I would prefer this information to be sent to me electronically.

The response is:

1. We report sickness from 01 April to 31st March, therefore, this is how the below

figures are presented.

01/04/12 – 31/03/13 - 564 people

01/04/13 – 31/03/14 – 535 people

01/04/14 – 31/03/15 – 561 People

NB: The above figures are for the number of people and not for the number of sickness episodes. This means that the figures are lower than the total number of sickness episodes, as an individual may have had more than one sickness episode within a year.

To generate a month by month breakdown would require us to process the information further and this pushes the request outside the scope of the Act.

2. Operational staff sick pay entitlement is 6 months at full pay followed by 6 months at

half pay.

Support staff sick pay entitlement is 6 months at full pay followed by 6 months at half

pay after 5 years completed service.

3. We do not hold this information.
