Free Training in Youth Work for Volunteers

Welcome to the SYA Training Calendar for 2018/2019, please remember that participating in training, along with your level of young people's engagement in activity and programme planning, all contribute towards your Bronze, Silver or Gold Youth Club Award. The award level is clearly marked on the training calendar in the ‘Course Title’ column.

FREE TRAINING IN YOUTH WORK FOR VOLUNTEERS

Young Leaders Award

For young people aged 13+ we offer a 2 day training course which helps young people develop their confidence and skills in the role of a young Leaders.

Level 2 Award in Youth Work – An introductory session along with 8 taught sessions, delegates must complete a portfolio of evidence to achieve the OCN accreditation.

Safeguarding – Raising awareness in safeguarding young people. A course designed to develop your knowledge of safe working practice, signposting to relevant agencies and offering advice and support. This course uses relevant case studies & scenarios to enable you to recognise the signs & symptoms of abuse and the pathway to referral.

The above courses are free of charge to Affiliated Voluntary Youth Clubs. However, please note that you may be charged for the registration fee for Level 2 & 3 in Youth ork, if you are not able to commit and complete the full course.

All of the above courses are free to Voluntary Youth Groups who receive all of their support from us. However, owing to changes in our contract with Shropshire Council, from April 2017, we regret that we may not be able to offer free training to groups who are not solely dependent upon SYA. We will endeavour to keep any charges to a minimum.

OTHER COURSES AVAILABLE AT A SMALL COST

Child Exploitation on Line Protection training (CEOP)

This course will develop your skills to help you to deliver internet safety within your youth club. This course is also good for raising your own self-awareness of the importance of internet safety. Cost £10 per person

Drugs & Alcohol Awareness Cost £10 per person

A knowledge based workshop centred on the effects of Drugs & Alcohol enabling you to explore issues around drugs & alcohol within a Youth Work setting. (Please note that this training is free for students undertaking the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work as it is one of the course modules.)

1st Aid – Emergency one day course

Cost £45 per person (please note that usual costs for this accredited course are in excess of £90 with other providers)

Food Hygiene – Level 1

Safe practice in preparing food within your Youth Club. Cost £35 per person.

Managing Challenging Behaviour Workshop

Run over two evenings, workshops for youth workers to look at conflict and challenging behaviour and how to manage these behaviours in a youth work setting.

CLUB CATEGORY 2 = Voluntary clubs that have governing bodies that offer infrastructure support as well as SYA (Scouts, Guides, YFC, Sports clubs)

• Level 2-£80
• Level 3-£160

CLUB CATEGORY 3 = CIC’s, charities and businesses that are funded or charge to deliver services

• Level 2-£120
• Level 3-£240

Level 3 Training will be delivered in September 2019, this is due to the fact that students need time to consolidate their learning and youth work practice from level 2 prior to undertaking this course.
