Cardboard Citizens makes theatre that effects change – personal, social and political – in the lives of homeless and marginalised people and in society’s perceptions of them. We:

•Tell untold stories, in theatres and beyond, opening the company's unique insight into experiences of homelessness to general audiences

•Present plays performed by or with homeless people, to share experiences and problem-solve

•Enable participants to develop confidence, skills and qualifications through workshops, training and productions

•Support participants’ personal, practical and progression needs

•Work in partnership to promote our work and share expertise in participatory theatre and engagement across sectors

Cardboard Citizens is seeking to recruit a Programme Delivery Manager to join its dynamic, busy and fun team. The role will enable the right candidate to help cement the organisation’s position as a pioneering theatre company working with and for socially excluded groups. Over the next few years we are planning to have a larger public presence, by making more theatre and attracting more attention to the organisation’s impact on general audiences and its members of people with experience of homelessness.

Highlights over the year ahead include:

  • Launching a landmark season of theatre to produce a series of short plays exploring the causes and effects of the national housing crisis - from the Westminster gerrymandering scandal to the shed slums in London – curated by a resident dramaturg.
  • Employing 5 young actors to devise and tour a piece of Forum Theatre to 5 schools in Tower Hamlets. A Matter of Mind aims to use the show and forum to explore and debate issues around mental health and wellbeing in schools, and to develop a toolkit for schools to use mindfulness techniques in reducing the impact of stress, anxiety and depression in both pupils and teachers.
  • Delivery of a national Forum Theatre Tour to hostels, day centres and prisons, engaging homeless and non homeless audiences, sparking debate, and earning CC its reputation as the leading UK practitioner of Forum theatre.
