Dear Pioneer and Carson Online Families:
Welcome back for the 2016-2017 school year. We hope your son/daughter are ready for an exciting year at PHS. We have some exciting changes and reminders listed below. (Classes start August 22nd and run from 7:35am-2:15pm)
Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students!
Good nutrition leads to success. This year, our CCSD Nutrition Services Dept. completed a grant to allow all of our students at PHS and Carson Online to have free breakfast and lunch every day. Though it is not mandatory, we will urge students to eat these meals consistently and to even do a “grab and go” in the morning to encourage them to be on time for 1st period. They can eat breakfast as usual in the morning before school in the cafeteria, courtyard, or classrooms. Again, all breakfast and lunch is free for everyone!
Transportation is Available:
Students can take all CHS routes and take a shuttle between both high schools in the morning and afternoon. Our afternoon bus picks up early at 2pm.
Daily Class Schedule:
All students can pick up their class schedules at 7:30am on August 22nd. These will be in rooms A1-A5 by alpha. Students can get breakfast from 7am-7:30am in the cafeteria or classrooms. Classes begin at 7:35am and end at 2:15pm. We will be on an A/B block schedule of four90 min classes per day and a 30 minute lunch. With this new schedule, students will be able to earn 9 credits per year minimum at PHS. Our A/B schedule and school holidays are on the school website.
Safety Items and Dress Code:
Students with less than 16.5 credits must stay on campus for lunch. Please see the student handbook located on the school website for dress code reminders. Phones are not allowed to be used during class and will be confiscated for a minimum of 24hrs with a parent pick up only.
New Construction at PHS Continues Next Summer:
For next year, Pioneer is on list for campus improvements with the bond money that was obtained by CCSD. If all goes well, we will be getting rid of all portables and replacing them with new brick/mortar buildings. This will add a multipurpose room, gym, PE offices, cafeteria, kitchen, lockers, two new science rooms, CTE lab, one new Carson Online lab, a commons area for students, and some offices for staff currently housed in building C. This construction is slated to start next summer.
