Frances’ diary – 1981
Thursday, Jan 1, New Year’s Day – Never worked. I went with Gladys in my car to get Cindy at Frederick. I gave Gladys a perm.
Jan 2 – I worked. Dull day.
Jan 3 – I went to work at 2:00. Dull day.
Sunday, Jan 4 – I cleaned house. Bill & Cinda came to talk lodge.
Jan 5 – We went to town. Went to K-Mart’s sale. Doyle went to lodge.
Jan 6 – I worked. Charley & Chris got here. They had dinner with us.
Jan 7 – Nice day. I went by Barb’s and got plastic to paint. I worked.
Jan 8 – Nice day. Doyle took me into Dr. O’Neil for my physical. $73.00. I worked. Lou & I cleaned the cooler. No dishwasher. Went to lodge.
Jan 9 – Nice day. Took down Xmas decorating. Wrapped Ken’s shirt to mail. Doyle went to Bingo. I come down home & soaked my feet.
Jan 10 – I painted a plaque for Kenneth. I worked. Went to the square dance. Had a good crowd.
Sunday, Jan 11 – I went up to Opal’s. I saw her sewing machine. Charley & Chris had dinner here.
Jan 12 - Nice day. I watered trees till the hose broke.
Jan 13 – We went into the hosp. at 7:30. I got lab work done. I painted a plaque.
Jan 14 – We went in to the hosp. at 7:30. I had my surgery (D & C) at 10:00. McIntoshes sent me some flowers. Doyle came after me about 11:30.
Jan 15 – I laid around. Elma came & I done her hair. Opal brought me a plate of muffins. Doyle went to Ault.
Jan 16 – 3 inches of snow this morning. Doyle took me to work. And Charley came & got me. Doyle went to Bingo. Alton Johnson & his wife were here.
Jan 17 – I had Charley & Chris up for waffles. I worked 2 to 8. Went by Gladys’.
Sunday, Jan 18 – We stayed home. I worked. I worked on the cat quilt.
Jan 19 – Nice day. We went to Ft. Collins. Got groceries & went to K-Mart. I worked on the quilt. Doyle went to lodge.
Jan 20 – The hostages in Iran were freed. I worked on the quilt. I worked 2 to 8. It was inauguration day for Ronald Reagan.
Jan 21 – We moved stuff out of our freezer to Vacha’s freezer. I worked on the Cat quilt. I worked the 2 to 8 shift.
Jan 22 – I finished tying the quilt. I worked 2 to 8 – cooked beans to make chili. Nice day.
Jan 23 – I worked 2 till 8. Doyle went to Bingo. Nice day.
Jan 24 – Barry was here early. They all went to the Wich auction but me. I stayed home – painted. I worked 2 till 8. Big crowd – beautiful day.
Sunday, Jan 25 – Cooler. We stayed home all day.
Jan 26 – I washed. It wad too cold & windy to hang out. Gene and Ione were here, said their camper had burned. Doyle went to lodge. Brought my sweater home.
Jan 27 – Cold. Doyle took wheat to Mrs. Clemens. My coat came by UPS. I worked 2 to 8 shift.
Jan 28 – I tacked on the cat quilt. Gladys had surgery on her leg. I went by to see her. I worked 2 till 8.
Jan 29 –Colder. We moved the other freezer onto the porch. I ironed. I worked 2 to 8.
Jan 30 – Chris got me 8 fryers at Albertsons. I baked & decorated a cake for the square dance. I worked 2 till 8. Doyle went to Bingo.
Jan 31 – Cold. I worked 2 till 8. Went to the square dance. Had live music. Got home after 1. Barry was here for lunch.
Sunday, Feb. 1 –Cold & windy. Ola called. We stayed home. Charley & Chris brought the paper up.
Feb. 2 – Cold. We went to Ft. Collins & went to Albertsons. I patched overalls.
Feb. 3 – I cleaned house. Worked on the cat quilt. Worked the 2 to 8 shift. Took Tammy my twin book. Came back by Gladys’ – Nora was there.
Feb. 4 – I got up early & called Kenneth for his birthday. I worked on binding the quilt. Steve and Sue. I worked the 2 to 8 shift.
Feb. 5 - Cold. I cleaned house. Sue brot her quilt top to show me. Barry was here. I worked the 2 to 8 shift. I worked on my quilt.
Feb. 6 – I worked on the quilt & worked 2 till 8. Busy evening. Barry was here.
Feb. 7 – I finished binding the quilt. I worked 2 to 8. Awful cold. Snowed some.
Sunday Feb. 8 – Cold. I went down to Bobby’s to see Fran & Ladd & their baby.
Feb. 9 – Cold. I went in and picked up the kids at school. I kept them all day. I made Bobby’s coat pattern.
Feb. 10 – Cold and blizzardy. I went in & took Gladys to work. Cleaned house. I worked the 2 to 8 shift. Had a new waitress – Pam.
Feb. 11 – Nicer day. I got up sick with diarrhea. I worked 2 to 8.
Feb. 12 – I made Bobby’s pattern for his coat out of a sheet. Bobby was here. I worked 2 to 8.
Feb. 13 – Nice day. Chris & I went to Ft. Collins shopping. Manda couldn’t go to school. We came back by Gladys’. I worked the 2 to 8 shift.
Feb. 14 – I worked 2 to 8. After work I went to the square dance. We had a good crowd.
Sunday, Feb. 15 – I stayed home. Doyle & Barry went to look at a oneway.
Feb. 16 – Nice day. I done a big washing. Barry helped Doyle go get his tractor. We went over to Clemens.
Feb. 17 – We baked Doyle’s birthday cake. Chris & the kids had dinner with us. I worked 2 to 8. Came by Gladys’ & took her some cake.
Feb. 18 – Bobby & Charley Butler came up and cleaned out the chicken house. I mopped the kitchen and worked 2 to 8. Nice day.
Feb. 19 – Nice day. I done my hair and ironed. Worked 2 to 8 then went across the street to lodge. I acted as N.G.
Feb. 20 – Jeanette came up for a hair cut. We took Chris to the bus and went in to Ft Collins. Went to Kmart. I worked 2 to 8.
Feb. 21 – Doyle & Barry went to a machinery auction. I worked 2 to 8.
Sunday, Feb. 22 – We stayed home. Gladys & the girls came up for dinner. Bobby & Pam came up & we cut out his coat.
Feb. 23 - I sewed on Bobby’s coat, then cleaned house. Barry was here
Feb. 24 – I sewed on Bobby’s coat. Worked 2 to 8. The health dept. paid us a visit. Doyle went to the seniors pancake supper.
Feb. 25 – Doyle took income tax papers over to Ault. I done some house cleaning and baked an apple pie. I worked 2 to 8. We fed the Lions Club. Tim started washing dishes.
Feb. 26 – Chris & I cut Carl’s hair. I’ve got a terrible cold. I worked 2 to 8.
Feb. 27 – I cleaned house. Doyle went to Bingo. I worked 2 to 8.
Feb. 28 - I made donuts for the dance. Worked 2 to 8. Went across to the square dance.
Sunday – Mar. 1 – Bobby came and tried the coat on. I called Ken – talked to David.
Mar. 2 – Cold and foggy. I went in to Judy’s and we went to PNG club at Dorothy’s. Had a salad luncheon. Heard Verna Rae and Eldon were splitting.
Mar. 3 – Cold & rainy. I cleaned cupboards. I worked 2 to 8. It snowed all afternoon. Came home in a snowstorm.
Mar. 4 – Kenneth called early this morn. About 4 ins. Of snow. Bobby was here. I put the edging on Bobby’s coat. I worked 2 to 8. I made bean soup.
Mar. 5 – I sewed the tails on Bobby’s capote. My car quit at the parking lot. Doyle came in and fixed it. I went to lodge after work.
Mar. 6 – It started snowing before noon. I worked 2 to 8. Came ome in a snowstorm. Doyle helped at Bingo.
Mar. 7 – Snowy & cold. I worked 2 to 8. Came back by Gladys’.
Sunday, Mar. 8 – We stayed home. Tom was here, so was Nancy & Bill. Doyle went to Toni’s.
Mar. 9 – I done a 3 wk. wash. Doyle went to Ault. Doyle went to lodge. I scrubbed the kitchen floor.
Mar. 10 – I worked 2 to 8. Made turkey noodle soup. Miserable with a new cold.
Mar. 11 –I ironed before I went to work. Doyle built a stock rack. He went to the livestock auction. I worked 2 to 8. Had 12 of the Lions club. Miserable cold.
Mar. 12 – I had a miserable cold. Worked 2 to 8. Doyle went to see the Globetrotters. Pam came to work with 2 black eyes.
Mar. 13 – I worked 2 to 8. Coughed my head off. The girls brought Carl & Manda up for FF. Doyle went to Bingo.
Mar. 14 – I finished Bobby’s coat. Worked 2 to 8. Doyle went to the Nudie Dance.
Sunday, Mar. 15 – I fixed the Vachas ann. dinner. Took some to Gladys.
Mar. 16 – We went to Ault & signed income tax papers & mailed them. I went with Chris to Mercy Farm to get her dishes. Started packing.
Mar. 17 – Windy. I worked 2 to 8. Went by after work & picked Angie up. We came home in a snowstorm.
Mar. 18 – Snow melted. I sewed on Angie’s blouse. Took Angie by the Center on the way to work. Gladys came up and took my car home.
Mar. 19 –I drove the Chevelle to work. Went by Gladys’. Went to lodge. Picked Cindy up. She spent the night.
Mar. 20 – Charley & Chris tried to leave for Wyo. but had trouble. Gladys came up and got me. I worked 2 to 8. Brot home a pizza. Doyle went to Bingo.
Mar. 21 – I worked 2 to 8. Went to the square dance. Had a pretty good crowd.
Sunday, Mar. 22 –Stayed home. Doyle went to Flea Mkt. We went to see McIntotch house.
Mar. 23 – We went to Collins. Went by Hosp. Service. And to the hosp and pd. My bill. Opal & Ed came down & pd. their bills. Doyle went to lodge.
Mar. 24 – Rainy & cold. I worked 2 to 8. Went by Gladys’ They post-poned her surgery. Had a busy day at the café.
Mar. 25 – I planted peas in the garden. Worked 2 to 8. Had 27 Lions Club for supper.
Mar. 26 – I worked 2 to 8. Made jello salad. Elma came early and got her hair done.
Mar. 27 – Jeanette came for a haircut. I worked 2 to 8. Started breaking in a new cook (John). Doyle went to Bingo.
Mar. 28 – Snowy & cold. I mopped kitchen. Worked 2 to 8. Worked with John.
Sunday, Mar. 29 –Windy. I baked a chicken. We stayed home & watched TV.
Mar. 30 – I washed. Doyle went to Ault. Bobby brought my picture up. I ironed in the eve.
Mar. 31 – I cleaned house. Gladys went to the hosp. Watched the academy awards.
Apr. 1 – Gladys was operated on early. I went down to the hosp & stayed till 3. Nice day. The café was closed.
Apr. 2 – Nice day. We went to Dru’s funeral. Came by to see Gladys. I went to lodge. Took Leona.
Apr. 3 – Snowed all day. Elma came to get her hair done. We went into Wellington.
Apr. 4 – Pop took me to the limo. Got to Mary’s about 8. Had to change planes in Atlanta. Barron & Russell met me.
Sunday, Apr. 5 – Mary took me to the shop & gave me a perm.
Apr. 6 – We picked up Russell & went & done all our wash at the laundromat.
Apr. 7 – We went to Wylma’s for dinner. Alyne took us on a sightseeing trip around Greensville.
Apr. 8 – Mary took me by Russell’s. I made krautburgers and cinnamon rolls. Phil took me by the beauty shop.
Apr. 9 – Mary took me to Russell’s. We made a cake and ch. Chip cookies. Phil took me to the shop. Barron took me down to Sr. Simms.
Apr. 10 – Mr. & Mrs. S. took me shopping for cloth. We went by Janes & fed her dogs. I got 4 pr. of slacks and a lot of cloth.
Apr. 11 – Barron & Russell came. We went to the Jackey Lot. I got earrings and peanuts. Back to Mary’s.
Sunday, Apr. 12 – Went to the flea mkt. Got me a pr. of shoes & trimming. Ate at Farmer Johns.
Apr. 13 – We got Russell & done the laundry. We went dress shopping. I got 2 dresses and some slacks.
Apr. 14 – We had to go to Greenville to get Russell motocycle parts. Mary took me to the plane. 1:30 min. layover. Kenneth met me in Boston.
Apr. 15 – Ken went to work. The boys to school. I made krautburgers. We went grocery shopping in the eve.
Apr. 16 – I mopped the kitchen. We had Andy and Mrs. Diver over for supper.
Apr. 17 – I made sloppy Joes. Went over & visited with Mrs. Diver.
Apr. 18 – Kenneth & Andy & I went to Newport & toured the Vanderbilt mansion.
Sunday, Apr. 19 –Andy was there. We fixed a turkey dinner. I made a pie.
Apr. 20 – Cold & rainy. We went to the parade. Kate & Audrey came in the evening.
Apr. 21 – Kenneth took me to a Chinese dinner & on to Filene’s shopping. Got Pop’s billfold.
Apr. 22 – K left for pgh. I walked down to A & P. I made banana bread and cookies.
Apr. 23 – Kate came for me & we went to Rockport. We got candles. We had dinner and visited.
Apr. 24 – Rainy. McGiver ran off. I fixed a pork roast. Andy was here for supper.
Apr. 25 – I done Kenneth’s washing. It was cold & raining. Made ch. Popcorn.
Sunday, Apr. 26 – Left Boston 9:20. Home at 3 p.m. Pop picked me up at Ramada. Went in to Gladys’.
Apr. 27 – I put my things away. Worked in the yard. Gladys & the girls were here for supper. We cut Molly’s hair.
Apr. 28 – Cooler. Worked in the yard. We went in and voted. We went to the Senior Citizens’ pancake supper.
Apr. 29 – I gave Elma a perm. We went to Wheelers & got a set of cookware. Came back by Gladys’.
Apr. 30 – I washed. Gene S. & Ione were here. I took Lou’s wedding gift in. Worked in the yard.
May 1 – I ironed & mopped the kitchen. I worked 2 to 8 at the café.
May 2- I worked 2 to 8 – then went to the square dance. Baked a cake.
Sunday, May 3 – We had a birthday dinner for Angie & Cindy. It rained.
May 4 – Cold. Doyle went to Ault. I went to P. N. G. club at Judy’s. Went by & got Leona.
May 5 – Cold. We went to Ft. Collins. I got Pam’s birthday present.
May 6 – Cold & rainy. I cleaned house.
May 7 – Pam’s birthday. Cold & windy. Charley Butler & Lisa Warneke were here. I cleaned kitchen.
May 8 –I went in & got my check and down to Brenda’s and got 2 pictures for Pam. Doyle went to Bingo. Cold.
May 9 – Awful cold & windy. We stayed home. Went for a drive in the eve.
Sunday, May 10 – We had our Mother’s Day dinner here.
May 11 – I set out my rose bushes. Cut out the bandana shirt for Russell Lee. My 3 boxes came fro Mary. Nora C. house burned. Doyle had Lodge.
May 12 – I took Leona to the Dr. We ate at Perkins. I painted the tryke for Bruce.
May 13 – Chilly. I sewed on Russell’s shirt. The Pope was shot.
May 14 – Chilly. I finished Russell’s shirt.
May 15 – Cold. I painted the front room ceiling. Worked in the yard. Doyle went to Bingo.
May 16 –Rained all day. I made cookies. We went to square dance. The girls spent the night.
Sunday, May 17 – Doyle shot a skunk. Gladys and girls came up for dinner. I made us two blouses.
May 18 – Cold. I finished painting the front room ceiling.
May 19 – We went to Ft. Collins & got groceries. Cleaned up paint mess.
May 20 – I cleaned house. Took David’s pkg. in and mailed it. Got chick mash. I cleaned yard.
May 21 – We went to Ft. Collins. Went to Kmart & Wards. I made cinnamon rolls & served at Lodge. I got sick in the nite.
May 22 – Windy. I done a big washing, mopped the kitchen. Doyle went to Bingo.
May 23 – Windy. We went to the Flea Market. I got a hat and ice tea glasses. Worked in the yard.
Sunday, May 24 – Nancy & Bill were here for dinner. We went to Kmart.
May 25 – Nice day. Went in to Gladys’. Barry and Phil helped us put Gladys’ metal shed up. It rained in the eve.
May 26 – Nice day. I painted kitchen cabinets. We went to the pancake supper. Rained in the eve.
May 27 – Nice day. Charley & Amanda came before lunch. They went on to Alton’s. I ironed.
May 28 – I baked a cake & fixed supper. Bobby & Pam & Gladys & the girls & Bruce came up for our ann. supper. It rained.
May 29 – Cold and rainy. Charley went to Denver. We kept Amanda. Doyle went to Bingo.
May 30 – Cold & cloudy. I worked in the yard about all day.
Sunday, May 31 – We went to the flea mkt. We went up to Turners.
June 1 – Freida came & we made krautburgers & took them to the Lodge hall. Had a dinner for P. N. G. Nancy & Bill came in the eve. We worked puzzles.
June 2 – I worked in the yard. Sewed on my dress. Freida came and I gave her a perm.
June 3 – I finished my dress. There was a tornado in Denver. Roland Betts sprayed for us. He stayed for dinner.
June 4 – I painted kitchen cabinets. Went to Lodge. Went by & sold Robin a baby bonnet.
June 5 – I painted lower cabinets and woodwork. Awful tired. Doyle went to Bingo.
June 6 – Elma came & I done her hair. We went to sq. dance. Angie & Cindy came home with us.
Sunday, June 7 – Gladys came after the girls. We stayed home.
June 8 – Pat & Tommy helped cut rye. Doyle took them home & went to Lodge. We played canasta.
June 9 – Tommy & Pat cut rye. I made Pat’s birthday cake.
June 10 – Tommy & Pat helped cut rye. I cleaned house. We had a bad thunder storm in the evening.
June 11 – I went to Ft. Collins got combs for Gladys. Groceries. I mopped the kitchen. Doyle went to an auction.
June 12 – The boys worked till noon. I took them home. Went by Gladys’. I went down and helped Leona E. put her storm windows away.
June 13 – We went to LaPorte. Couldn’t leave my bonnets. Went to Steele’s & back by Flea Mkt on No. College.
Sunday, June 14 –Chilly. We stayed home – went for a ride.
June 15 - The boys & Doyle cut rye. It was windy. I took them home.
June 16 – I done a big washing. Then went to Ft. Collins with Opal & Renee. Got 10 yards of blue material.
June 17 – Windy. Elma came for me to do her hair. Bobby & the boys came up to cut rye.
June 18 –Worked in the yard. Cindy helped cut rye. Angie & I went to Ft. Collins & picked David up. I made donuts & krautburgers. I went to Lodge. Doyle to Auction.
June 19 – Windy. They cut rye in the forenoon. Doyle took the kids home. Baked 2 pies. I went in to the library auction. Doyle & David went to Bingo.
