  • OR work towards an upcoming, time-sensitive opportunity (for example, the beginning of a new budgetary cycle at district level or a scheduled review of national FP guidelines/SOPs, allowing for important advocacy work or technical assistance, etc.).

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Definition:
  • Providing expert advice and assistance to strengthen government capacity to develop and implement improved family planning policies and programs.
  • Technical assistance can either be provided by an organization with demonstrated expertise in a specific subject, or an external consultant.
  • Technical assistance is generally supported by the RRM through a deliverable-based contract (not an activity-based grant).

TRAINING:
Definition:
  • Providing training and post-training activities on family planning to service providers and other key stakeholders, using a specific curriculum that has been approved by the national government.
  • The RRM primarily supports the following types of training:
  • Training of Master Trainers (ToT) on family planning service delivery techniques and methods at national and decentralized levels.
  • Training of individual health providers (public and private) on FP service delivery techniques and methods, with an emphasis on last-mile service delivery.
  • Training of key stakeholders in evidence-based advocacy, policy communication, and/or budget negotiation for family planning.

ADVOCACY
Definition:
  • Advocacy is a strategic series of actions designed to influence those who hold governmental, political, economic, or private power in order to effect change.
  • General awareness-raising or education on family planning are not eligible for funding by the RRM.
  • Before you start, please make sure to review FP2020’s guidelines on advocacy and lobbying (Word document). Please be aware that certain advocacy or lobbying activities are prohibited per the RRM’s policy.

INCREASING ACCESS FOR HARD-TO-REACH AND MARGINALIZED GROUPS
Reminder:
The RRM cannot be used to fund the following:
  • Purchase of contraceptives;
  • General awareness-raising or education on family planning;
  • Government staff salaries or honorariums;
  • Scholarships to individuals;
  • Fees to attend a conference;
  • Basic research, academic studies or surveys;
  • Capital equipment (such as machinery, vehicles, IT equipment, and office furniture);
  • Any work to increase access to safe abortion.
