Fourth Annual Torrance Regional Chess Tournament Application

Chess Tournament Instruction

·  Participants must be enrolled in a high school.
·  All chess players are welcome to participate, regardless of skill level.
·  The tournament will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Torrance High School (Located at: 2200 W. Carson Street, Torrance, CA. 90501). Participants must be able to provide their own transportation to and from this location.
·  Please try to get here by 4:00 PM. We will begin the tournament by 4:30 PM. If you are not present at the start of any round, you will automatically forfeit that round. The tournament is expected to last about 3 hours.
·  There is a $3 participation fee per person. Please bring $3 with you to the tournament, to be paid at the door. Bring exact change.
·  You will have the option to participate in teams of three people. If you wish to participate in a team, please indicate a team name. Additionally, select one participant to act as the leader of the team. Team leaders will be seeded not to compete until the final rounds. If you do not have enough people to make a full team, but still wish to be eligible for team prizes, we will try to pair you with other participants. You will be notified of your team prior to the competition via your preferred means of communication.
·  In the event that many people apply to participate in the tournament, we may have a preliminary round. In that case, we will contact all applicants via their preferred means of communication in the week prior to the competition. Please check your preferred means of communication regularly, and be prepared to provide a date and time during which you can play an online chess game. We will notify those selected to participate after the preliminary round has concluded.
·  Monetary awards will be given to top teams and individuals. Exact prize amounts will be determined by the number of participants who sign up. If you are part of a team, you are still eligible for individual prizes.
