Forever-Fit Summer Camp Announces 2012 Summer Session

Camp for children opens its doors for second consecutive year

Indianapolis (April 5, 2012) —The Forever-Fit Summer Camp, a camp for children coping with weight issues and obesity, will hold its 2012 program from June 18th through July 27th. Sponsored by the Saturday Evening Post Society (SEPS) and the Children's Better Health Institute (CBHI), the nonprofit, Indianapolis-based camp helps children learn about nutrition, active living, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

For the second consecutive year, Joan SerVaas, President and Publisher, The Saturday Evening Post magazine, will open CBHI’s farm in Indianapolis to host the camp. The 24-acre ‘Fitness Farm’ offer campers a unique opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of engaging and educational activities. SerVaas serves as the camp’s program director, helping to plan camp activities, as well as providing funding.

“Childhood obesity is a serious public health issue in the United States and a cause that is near to my heart,” said SerVaas. “The Forever-Fit Summer Camp impacts many children in the Indianapolis area and we hope the camp serves as an example for the rest of country. Last summer’s camp resulted in numerous success stories, and now with a year of experience under our belt we expect the 2012 summer program to be an even greater success.”

In addition to SerVaas, camp experts includes: Elise Lindstrom,Dietitian andHealth and Wellness Director, CBHI;Kyle McIlrath, Exercise Physiologist and Health and Fitness Director,CBHI; Dr. David Creel, Ph.D., R.D., C.D.E. at St. Vincent’s Hospital; Dr. John Guare, Ph.D., psychologist, Indiana University; Dr. Sandeep K. Gupta, MD; Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Indiana University and Director of Riley Hospital for Children's POWER Program.

Applications are now being accepted for the summer 2012 program. Campers submitting applications must be between the ages of 8-12, live in the Indianapolis area, and struggle with overweight or obesity. Campers are also referred from local physicians and/or schools. The cost of the camp is $100 per week, with financial assistance available for qualified applicants.
