For Someone Else's Month

For Someone Else's Month

WINDi Days

(WorldIssuesNewsDiscussion)

This assignment is meant to mimic the manner in which university courses are organized. Most university courses consist of 1-3 lectures and a tutorial group meeting each week Sometimes the tutorial group is designed so students can review the material presented in the lectures, but more often they are a forum where new work is covered. They are also a forum where students are expected to be prepared for discussions, as the groups are usually small, students can not simply hide in a lecture of hundreds of people.

For someone else's month

  • You must read the distributed article and bepreparedto participate in discussion concerning the article of the week.

For Your month

  • On yourmonth, you will be responsible for finding and preparing an article that details a current world issue, and you will lead the group discussion on the WINDi Day for that month. You will hand in a folder complete with annotated article, questions & answers, 5 background articles, a bibiliography, and peer evaluations immediately after the seminar in class.
  • The article will be from a scholarly publication (respected newspaper, magazines or journals ) and moderate in length (500-1000words). It must be from a news event or story that has taken place within one month of your WINDi Day.
  • The article must photocopied and handed outat leasttwo classes ahead of timeto allow your group members time to prepare.
  • Prepare a set of discussion topics or questions which you will use to lead the 30 minute discussion that week. They are to be primarily open-ended and meant to encourage discussion. The questions are not meant to test your group's knowledge of the article (NO objective questions, but LOTS of subjective questions requiring an opinion.
