Purpose of Parent Voice

Parent Voice is run by the parents and carers of children at St Augustine’s Catholic Academy. Parent Voice is not about fundraising or governing the school, it’s about creating a platform for parent’s voices to be heard from, creating opportunities for parents to be involved in school matters, encouraging parents as volunteers and improving communications between the school and the parents/community.

Parent Voice minutes

At least once a term Parent Voice will meet with the Leadership team of the school to discuss issues, please find below the minutes from our last meeting held on Wednesday 12th October.

The points discussed:

Parent Workshops

These are to be held as presentations for parents to attend throughout the school week. Presentations will include children working at different stations so that parents can observe and join in with activities where they feel appropriate. E.G. Work stations will include strategies taught from KS1 through to KS2. Times will vary for these presentations throughout the week but we will be aiming for a 9am session, 11am session and 3pm session in hope that parents will be able to attend one of the sessions. These presentations will happen in Term 2 and Term 3.

Parent support group

At St Augustine’s we are keen to set up a parent support group for parents, this group would be an informal group that would run weekly for parents to attend to chat and support each other over a cup of tea. On certain weeks we could request that a guest speaker attends on issues identified by the group. The first meeting that we are holding will be on Thursday 3rd November at 9am- please come along for some cake, coffee and a chat.

What can we do as a school to build links within our community?

As a group we discussed that over the Advent period it would be nice to support the older people within our community- Sandra Crossan will arrange a talk in school for children on suitable items we could collect during Advent. Each class will be given a box and we will ask children to bring a small donation in each day to add to the box, staff will also put a box together. Before we break up for the Christmas period a number of children will present the wrapped boxes to a local Care Home.

Grandparents’ tea party to be held in school in Term 2, this was a great success last academic year and it gives children the opportunity to celebrate school life with their Grandparents.

A tea party to be held for each class at least twice throughout the school year, children to invite parents, carers and grandparents into school to share class work and achievements whilst enjoying some tea and cake together.

How could we improve our school?

Gardening club- this will run in Term 2 for children in EYFS and KS1, then rotate to KS2 in Term3. Mrs Shaw and Mrs Crossan will run this club every Monday from 3.15pm to 4pm.

In term 2 we are also hoping to run a parents’ knitting club on a Monday from 1.45pm to 3.00pm- watch this space for more information.

School choir- this is something we are hoping to get up and running by T2 also.

Finally we are also hoping to offer a Textile club to our older children this will be organised by some of our very talented parents within the school- again more information to follow.

Next meeting- 16th November 2016
