What is the NDS Human Rights in Disability training? / The National Disability Services (NDS) Human Rights training is for Disability Support Workers across the State. It explores what human rights are and how Disability Support Workers can apply them in day to day practice to best support their clients and themselves.
Why does e learning look different? / The Learning seat platform has been upgraded to a new learning management system referred to as Learn Connect. Your e learning has a new look, but you’re your user name and passwords remain the same.
How many modules do I need to complete? / The training is made up of 5 interactive training modules and will be launched in 2 phases.
Phase 1 consists of 2 modules and should be completed byAugust 31st, 2015

  2. Module 2 - Human rights and responsibilities in law
Phase 2 consists of 3 modules and will be launched September 2015.
  1. Module 3 - Balancing and protecting human rights
  2. Module 4 - Empowerment of people with disability
  3. Module 5 - Summary and next steps

Is this training compulsory? / Yes, all Disability Support Workers are required to complete the training.
It is also compulsory for all managers and office based staff to complete the course. This will enable managers to gain an introduction to or refresh their knowledge about human rights, and also enable them to engage with their staff about the program.
How do I access the training? / The training can be accessed through the e-Learning (Learn connect) portal on the EWTF Intranet page using your allocated username and password.

The modules will be assigned to your profile.
How do I get my username and password? / You will use your e learning user name and password.
If you have not received a username and password or do not remember the password, simply click on the reset button.
How much time will I need to complete each module? / Each module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
You can do them all at once or space them out over time.
When do I need to complete the modules by? / Module 1 and 2 must be completed by August 31st 2015
What happens if I do not complete the modules by the due date? / An email will go to your manager advising them of this. You will continue to receive email reminders advising you that the course is overdue.
Will I get paid to do compulsory training?

(cont.) / For all office basedstaff, you will need to discuss with your Manager to schedule time during your normal working day to complete the e-Learning requirements. In this instance, you will not get paid any additional hours for completing the e-Learning, unless it has been requested by your Manager to be scheduled outside the normal working day in your own time. In this instance, your Manager will need to seek approval through Human Resources.
For all other Vistaand E.W.Tipping staff, the modules can be completed in your own time either at your workplace where a computer may be available, at home or in any other location where you can access a computer. You will be paid to complete the modules.
Theaverage length of time specified to complete each module is 20 minutes.
You are able to claim 40 minutes in total for the first 2 modules you complete.
On your timesheet you must record:
  • The date and time the training was completed;
  • In the comments section write ‘”NDS Human Rights Training’and Module 1 or 2.
  • You must attach a copy of the Certificate of Completion for each module to your timesheet
If a training module takes you longer than the designated time, please raise this with your Manager so they can discuss with Human Resources.
How do I print my Certificate of Completion? / At the end of each module you can enter your individual details and print out a Certificate of Completion to attach to your timesheet.
What sort of computer or device do I need to complete this training? / The online program can be completed on a computer, tablet or IPAD. The computer screen must be 13 inches or larger. This won’t be a problem for desktops and laptops. But it means if you are viewing it on a netbook computer with a screen smaller than 13 inches you will not be able to see the full screen.
For optimal performance, we recommend that you view the training program in any of the following internet browsers: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer Version 8.0 or above. If you cannot view the videos or hear the audio, you can read the information in the transcripts. You will not need a special program to read the transcripts.
What sort of computer skills do I need? / The training program has been designed for everyone, including those with little or no computer experience. There is a ‘start up tour” at the beginning to show you how to use the program & the upgraded learning management system
What happens if I or someone else I work with has trouble reading or using a computer? / Please raise this issue with your manager, L&D or HR, so that we can work out an alternative way for the module to be completed. For example we can arrange face to face training led by a facilitator, or we can arrange training in how to use a computer or arrange access to office based resources.
How can I access e-learning if I have no email and/or access to a computer? / Please contact your manager or L&D so that we can discuss the options available to you.
Who do I contact if I have any questions? / Your manager/coordinator/team leader in the first instance or the L & D Team on 95641044.
What if I am experiencing technical difficulties? / The training program has been tested on lots of different programs to ensure it runs smoothly.
