For New Students and Transfers

Welcome to UW – Whitewater and the Center for Students with Disabilities! Below is a checklist for you to use as you get registered and prepare for your first semester. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 262-472-4711 for assistance.

☐Have I registered for services?

  • Your services from high school do not automatically transfer with you! Here is information on applying for accommodations.

☐Have I been approved for services?

  • If you have turned in your complete application and all required documentation, you should be hearing from our office regarding your acceptance within 14 business days. If you have not received a letter and an email from our office within that time, please contact our office at 262-472-4711. No accommodations may be provided until an application has been accepted by our office.

☐Have I met with my Disability Services Coordinator?

  • The letter/email you receive from our office will contain the name of your Disability Services Coordinator (DSC). You must meet with your Coordinator before you can receive accommodations! Schedule an intake appointment by calling our office at 262-472-4711. For students applying for services before the start of the semester, this intake appointment should happen before classes begin. If you are applying for services while classes are in session, you should schedule this appointment as soon as possible. Please note that accommodations are not retroactive (meaning they cannot be applied to tests or coursework which has already happened before meeting with your DSC).
  • If you are attending the Summer Transition Program, you must meet with your Disability Services Coordinator BEFORE it begins.

☐Have I registered for my Plan-It Purple Day?

  • Register here if you are an incoming freshman, and here if you are a transfer student
  • Any question regarding Plan-It Purple or registration should be directed to First Year Experience
  • If you are attending the Summer Transition Program, you must attend a Plan-It PurpleDay BEFORE it begins.

☐Have I scheduled my Math Placement test?

  • Information about accommodations for the placement test may be found here. Please note that the Center for Students with Disabilities does not handle or provide accommodations for placement tests.
  • For students who do not need accommodations for the placement test, you can find more information and schedule it here.

☐Have I scheduled an appointment with an Assistive Technology Student Specialist, if needed?

  • If you will be using any sort of CSD provided assistive/adaptive technology, you should schedule an appointment for installation and/or training with one of our Assistive Technology Student Specialists, UNLESS you will be attending a group installation/training session during the Summer Transition Program or Fall Orientation (currently only offered for Kurzweil 3000 users). Please note that even if you will be attending the Summer Transition Program and/or Fall Orientation, you may still choose to make an individual appointment with one of our Assistive Technology Student Specialists. To make an appointment, please call our office at 262-472-4711.
